Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

I read this book on the way to my last job interview. And I got the job. Now, I'm not saying that I was successful by being a bitch, but being in touch with my needs and goals was certainly a help. This humorous look at why women don't get what they need and want uses cartoons by Nicole Hollander (Sylvia) to illustrate strategies for "getting over toxic niceness" and saying what you really mean. Perhaps the world would be a nicer place if we all stopped fretting over the "B" word.

Product Description

The Inner Bitch is the Bette Davis in all of us--that integral, powerful partwhich often goes unrecognized--walking around with a cigarette in one hand, amartini in the other, calling a dump a dump. For the woman who wants to laughout loud and speak her mind, Hilts offers the ultimate self-help book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, February 6, 2002
By "trish1964" (Peoria, Il United States) - See all my reviews
When a friend gave this book to me, I thought it was mostly just going to be a humorous book to read. I was more than pleasantly surprised. It is humorous, but it also is one great book. For anyone that struggles with being a people pleaser and doormat this is the book to read. It has some practical and relatively simple advice on how to get rid of the neon flashing doormat sign above your head. I loved it and I'm trying out some of the techniques. Being a counselor, I've read many books about this subject and I must say that I find this one to be of great value- humorous and practical all at once!!

5.0 out of 5 stars IT IS ALWAYS OUT ON LOAN, May 21, 2000
By "sue@dbn.lia.net" (South Africa) - See all my reviews
My husband gave this book to me as a joke, as a male it was the title that caught his eye. Obviously a book so small is very easy reading but I laughed and laughed. What was being said was so true. Anyone feeling a little low on the injustices of women should read this book. My book is always out on loan, with the understanding that it MUST be returned. I have just submitted an English assignment on 'political correctness' and I used this book. As a woman are you sometimes treated with disrepect, made to feel subserviant or your views dont count, as the book says "I dont think so".

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous and Helpful, June 25, 2004
By Robin M Goffinet (Richmond, IN United States) - See all my reviews
I have always been a victime of "toxic niceness" and afraid to say no to anyone. After reading this, I realized that it is ok to say no and you don't have to be nicey nicey to people that are mean and hateful. You can't please everyone no matter how hard you try and you don't have to put up with someone treating you like a doormat. After reading this, I am much more confident in standing up for myself and to say "I don't think so"
