From Library Journal
Levy's theory is that to save money on an automobile you must minimize the price paid and maximize the resale price. Therefore, he recommends purchasing a new car that will have high resale value and replacing it in a few years before the resale value drops significantly. Levy, who has bought, sold, and leased more than 3000 cars over the last 16 years, includes a chart that rates the resale value of brands and models. He also outlines the advantages and disadvantages of paying cash, financing, and leasing and explains exactly how to negotiate by dealing directly with the fleet manager. The section on leasing is very good. Brief chapters on selling/trading your automobile and car-safety care are included. All in all, this is straightforward talk that would be useful to first-time buyers. For public libraries.

From Booklist
There are few more daunting exercises than purchasing an automobile. The fact that it is an "exercise," with planned routines set up by dealerships, provides Levy's inspiration. He seeks to arm you with enough information and insight to make negotiations with auto dealers a fair contest. Insight into a retail auto sales staff's routine for getting a higher price for a given car should demystify the process and give you greater negotiating leverage, so Levy describes the act. "The salesperson may ask you how much you would pay for the car right now," then tell you the offer is not high enough and that "I need something more to bring to my manager--help me out here," thereby creating the illusion that the salesperson is trying to help you get the car at the lowest possible price, of course--not! Once you understand this, real negotiations may begin. Besides buying a car, Levy also covers selling, trading, and leasing. Good reading in an area of vital interest to a great many. Mike Tribby
