The best book of the best series on BDSM, April 15, 2002
For anyone who is into BDSM or who is curious about what motivates people who are, this book is the best exploration of the mindset of a submissive. Antoniou very cleverly uses her central conceit - a Marketplace of willing slaves who sell themselves into multi-year contracts to wealthy Owners (under which contracts the slaves are eventually compensated) - to explore the psychological aspects of service and being property. Antoniou is herself most interested in - okay, let's be blunt, aroused by - slaves whose behavior needs to be corrected, so all of her books are filled with slaves who are flawed or are otherwise struggling to live up to someone's (usually, Sgt. Parker's) exceedingly high expectations. The Slave is her best-selling book, in part because the curious find the title titillating, but mainly because she lays out Robin's whole journey, complete with the backstory from her youth, and proceeding through her training by Parker and her experiences being owned. Although this is the best book in the series, I would strongly urge anyone who is interested in it to read the series from the beginning. It is much more satisfying that way.

For all you subs out there ..., November 30, 2000
Chris Parker, the harshly self disciplined trainer, returns in the second book of the series to guide Robin, a woman whom rejoices in her need for servitude, into the mysterious underground world of Masters and slaves. Robin is trained and then ushered into a world where willing submissives are bought, sold and used at their owners discretion.For those readers that fell in love with the BDSM classic, the Story of O, there has finally come a series that treats BDSM as more than just a cheap trick to sell poorly written porn. This book is well written, has identifiable characters and an interesting premise. Lara Antinou is a frequent guest at many BDSM conferences. I believe that her premise taps into the desire of many of BDSM scene (whether they go the events or just dream at home) that there is a group of people out there that take the leather scene a little more seriously than your average S&M aficionado. It is just a little exciting to think that if you can shine as a truly powerful Master or well behaved slave, that you may be allowed into a special clique of true devotees. In addition to her well conceived premise, the characters in the book are well developed and interesting to read about. For those of you that enjoy BDSM but not bisexuality, this book has fewer homosexual encounters that the first book in the series. I think that you find it is a welcome break from aggressive, badly written fare that passes for BDSM novels.

A great second book in this series, December 27, 2001
Once more, Laura Antoniou takes us into the world of the Marketplace where consensual slaves go through harsh training, then are sold for time limited terms to real owners. This time, she focuses on one slave-girl, Robin, and her journey through training under the hands of Chris Parker and then her life as the sole woman in her gay masters' household. In addition the novel itself, this Mystic Rose edition has a short story, "A Familiar Ring", which takes us futher along in Robin's service and gives us a glimpse back into the BDSM community as it exists today. If you liked the first book, you'll enjoy this one just as much.
