Editorial Reviews

Review

"A wonderful book...it has just the message we try to convey to help nurture children's creativity...We quote from it in our parent handouts and docent training material." -- Habitot Children's Museum

"The book is filled with fun, creativity building projects in which students of all ages can participate." -- School & Community [Missouri State Teachers Assn.]

A useful, handsome book to help parents and teachers make art accessible to their children. -- Parent's Journal, California

Product Description

This award winning book offers over 250 art activities designed to encourage kids to make art a part of their everyday lives. Skills and materials are described with how-tos and recipes, but the projects themselves are open-ended to encourage creativity and to allow different results each time and by different age levels. Parent guidelines empower even "art impaired" adults, providing what every parent and teacher needs to know to create an environment that gets kids excited about art. Winner of a Parent's Guide to Children's Media Award.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas, great approach to "teaching" art to children, March 1, 1999
By A Customer
Carolyn Holm has made a remarkable contribution in this book, for in it, she not only gives parents and teachers exciting ideas for "everyday" art projects, she also presents a clear and compelling rationale for approaching art with children with an open process. We use this approach in the art studio of Habitot Children's Museum (a hands-on museum for young children in Berkeley). We see many parents who mean well, but who actually interfere in un-helpful ways with their their children's art-making. This book is great for any parent or teacher who wants to see their children become truly creative and have high self-esteem. I recommend it highly! Gina Moreland, Director, Habitot Children's Museum
