Editorial Reviews
Book Description
This collection features work from the first twelve issues of Claypool Comics' Elvira, Mistress of the Dark comics series, nominated by the British Comics professionals Society as Best Humor Comic. It delivers the very best of the adventures of the saucy, sassy video hostess as she faces foes both fearsome and farcical. /

Stories and art by: Kurt (Astro City) Busiek, Paul (Batman Adventures) Dini (his first published comics work), James (New Shadowhawk) Fry, Terry (Mr. Miracle) Austin, Dave (X-Men) Cockrum, Ricardo (Strange Tales) Villagran, Jim (Spider-Man) Mooney, and a host of others! Every line approved by Elvira herself as being witty and/or curvaceous enough for her! /

The volume is an incredible 152 pages of sexy, silly, satirical sashays by Elvira. Buy it for your sexist roommate! Buy one for your feminist cousin! Your mother! Your job counselor! Everyone will enjoy Elvira-- except those who have absolutely no sense of humor! Don't become one of them!!

About the Author
Kurt Busiek: / /

Kurt Busiek is a walking example of the phrase "embarrassment of riches." He's written his own creator-owned series, Astro City, the two longtime Marvel series he's always wanted to write, Iron Man and Avengers, and his co-creation Thunderbolts. If he has a dazed look on his face when you see him, it's either bafflement at his good fortune or exhaustion at all the deadlines that these projects entail. /

Kurt started writing comics in 1982, with backup stories in Green Lantern and fill-in issues of Power Man and Iron Fist, and worked his way through a decade on fill-ins, one-shots and short runs on such series as Red Tornado, Liberty Project, Vampirella, TeenAgents, Valor, and Night Thrasher. His breakthrough series was the award-winning 1993 Marvels mini-series, which he did with painter Alex Ross. Since then, in addition to the above, he's written such books as Untold Tales of Spider-Man, and Ninjak. /

Kurt lives in the vast Pacific Northwest with his wife, Ann, and their faithful Welsh corgi Hector. He considers himself a ridiculously lucky man. / / / Paul Dini: / /

Paul Dini is an Emmy Award-winning writer for the television series Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: The Animated Series, and Batman Beyond. He is producer/writer of the Batman and Superman animated television series. He's also a multiple Eisner-award winning comics scripter (for Mad Love) and the creator of the popular character Harley Quinn. He is the creator of the comic-book series Jingle Belle. His first published comic-book work is included in this Elvira collection. He lives in Southern California. / / / / Richard Howell: / /

Richard Howell is the editor of Claypool Comics and Boffin Books. He is the writer-artist of Claypools Deadbeats, and has drawn Hawkman for DC Comics and The Vision and the Scarlet Witch for Marvel. He also wrote, drew and published his own Portia Prinz, a character whom he later revived in the pages of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. He lives in New Jersey. / / / Dave Cockrum: / /

Dave Cockrum is the artistic co-creator of the modern day X-Men. He has also drawn such comics series as Legion of Super-Heroes, Futurians, Star Trek, Ms. Marvel, Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League Quarterly and Green Lantern Quarterly. / / / James Fry: / /

James Fry is an artist best known for his work on X-Factor, Shadowhawk, Sonic the Hedgehog, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Star Trek comics. He has drawn for nearly all of the major comic-book publishers. / / / Jim Mooney: / /

Jim Mooney is a comics artist of several decades standing. Best-known for his work on Marvel Comics Spider-Man and DC Comics Supergirl, he has drawn literally hundreds of other characters for various publishers. He is widely considered one of the grand old men of the comic-book business. / / / Ricardo Villagran: / /

Born in the small northern city of Correntes, Argentina, in 1938, Ricardo was a natural artist. While still in school, Ricardo started accepting freelance work for various advertising companies, printers and comics publishers. His list of clients grew to include most of Argentinas big advertising agencies and printing houses. /

In 1969, Ricardo returned to the field of comics. He illustrated numerous covers and stories covering every subject from barbarians, romance, westerns to science fiction. / In 1970 Ricardo was elected the Vice President of the Association de Dibujantes, and co-creator of Argentinas Association de Illustradores. The ever-increasing demand for Ricardo's work led him in 1974 to open his own studio, Nippur Quatro, with his two brothers Enrique and Carlos. At one time the studio grew to employ 20 artists and assistants, producing work for comic publishers in Argentina and Europe. /

In 1982, Ricardo came to the United States and established contacts in American comics. He started working from Argentina for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Archie Comics, Dark Horse Comics and many others. /

Ricardo now splits his time between Philadelphia and Buenos Aries. He continues to accept illustration and comic assignments, but is now concentrating more on his first love, painting. / REVIEW1: The famous horror hostess with the mostest get into the fray with this collection from her official series. Elvira slithers and wittily retorts mean and nasty evils and sends them running in this often hilarious and always entertaining series. REVIEW1_SOURCE: GraphicNovels.com REVIEW2: Elvira wisecracks her way through wacky misadventures. For teen and up vampire fans; good humornever mean-spirited or even sexist.
