5.0 out of 5 stars This book will make a difference in your bottom line!, August 23, 1998

Covers all types of retail loss problems, in depth, and accurately. If you are a loss control/prevention professional and want to see a program that will work, a training program that can be implemented..I would highly recommend this book. Not only does he outline the problem, but provides workable solutions that will fix it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very persuasive., January 18, 1999
By A Customer
As a regional loss prevention manager for a national chain of 1,400 stores located in malls (and a past private detective) I was extremely surprised at how informative and useful this book turned out to be. It actually changed the way I view and approach various aspects of both internal and external theft and thieves.

It has a good mix of actual case histories and anecdotes (all interesting and some hilarious) that relate well to the points being made and principles being outlined. There are NO boring parts at all, even in sections covering ordinarily mundane things such as evidence handling, paperwork, court prep, etc.

It would be fair to say that after studying this book, a novice will become proficient, and an experienced LP person will DEFINITELY be more effective. Since the methods, techniques, principles and ideas are so sound and easy to incorporate into an existing program, the book should be required reading for all loss prevention managers and officers. It's really that good.

In sum, if there's any book about loss prevention and theft that's worth twenty dollars, this one's worth ninety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far beyond expectations., September 8, 2001
By A Customer
The first two weeks, the section on video surveillance and terms and equipment saved us a few hours of research, cleared up some confusion and saved us ordering some things for a job that just wouldn't have worked. At that point, we would have been happy if that was all we ever got from this book.

But we're finding a WHOLE lot more. Probably what I like best is it's written like a book and not a technical manual, so it's enjoyable to read. Also, unlike most security things I read, it goes way beyond "what to do and why." It does a great job with the most important part: "Exactly HOW to do."

Great Example: The author claimed that someone with no experience could follow directions in the book to hook up a VCR, TV, mini-camera, plus cable and power sources and have it all up and recording in just two minutes. Our part-time secretary is a Culinary student. She followed the directions and actually had it recording with a few seconds to spare. THAT was pretty neat.
