The Body & Soul Ministries is a growing movement of spiritually grounded workout classes, often based in church facilities. The president of the ministries, Jeanne Blocher, has developed an hour-long workout video for home use that is polished, balanced, and very motivating. The class itself is a challenging blend familiar to those who've tried Jazzercize or other aerobics classes that combine strength training and floor work. Blocher leads the class through 6 minutes of warm-up, 22 minutes of high-intensity aerobics (with low-impact versions always available), 25 minutes of strength training, and a thorough stretching sequence. What makes this class unique is its use of high-energy Christian music, especially motivating during the aerobics portion. It's hard not to put a little extra oomph in your can-can kicks when the peppy music accompanying them is Mike Hurst's "Spiritual Health Kick." The video is accompanied by a booklet offering suggested scripture study, as well as the all-important posture and stance tips that will help give you maximum results safely; be sure to read it before trying the tape for the first time. --Anne Hurley

5.0 out of 5 stars Body & Soul Workout Video Rated One of the Best!, January 14, 2000
By Debbie Wood (Northern Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
The Body & Soul Workout video is a great exercise tool. I have worked out to many videos, including kick boxing, step and other dance aerobic videos. The Body & Soul Workout video is one of the best I have ever seen. The movements from the warmups, through the aerobics and strength training are clear and easy to follow. Jeanne's calling is excellent. The aerobics segment offers a great variety of styles and movements with plenty of intensity to get a good cardiovascular workout. The uplifting music is encouraging and motivating to exercise to. And the special effects and various camera angles are a real plus, adding to the overall interest of the video and its professional presentation. I highly recomment this video to anyone who can't actually join a Body & Soul class or who need an extra workout at home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Body & Soul - No Cues, April 14, 2000
I have worked out to this video and the moves are fine and you can build up a good sweat. The problem is that the instructor does not provide cues consistently so that you know what your next move is...so I felt like I was always behind the eight ball...the strength training section was very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!, September 8, 2001
By A Customer
The tape was so good, at least for my particular needs, I find myself not using it as much as I probably should, perhaps it's because it's a little long (for me anyway)
