Education is the key to survival so make informed decisions!, September 20, 1998
I perform research in a neuroscience lab at one of the nation's leading medical colleges. Reading Dr. Cohen's book grabbed my attention on several different levels. First, the list of ingredients in a carton of milk: an extensive list of hormones and antibiotics, virus particles, live(antibody-resistant)bacteria, pus, fat, etc. Second, the corruption of the FDA and science as an institution. I was surprised to discover that prestigious scientific journals were used as vehicles (bribed?) to publish results of a pharmaceutical company's highly biased research results (in a jargon-encrypted form). The conclusions of these journals would be cited by non-scientific newspaper journalists, thus giving the conclusions an air of acceptability to the general public. And the practice of "scientists" that work for the drug companies reviewing their own research as employees of the FDA is incredibly unethical. Third, these same publications set precedence for marketing of a genetically-engineered product for human consumption. Forth, a steady stream of multi-media advertising propaganda equal to brainwashing has been going on for decades to sell milk. In fact, milk is strongly implicated to play a major role in heart disease, the nation's number one killer. I was raised on a steady diet of milk and dairy products. If my parents had known then what I know now, I bet that things would have been different. Of all the books I have read in the past 5 years on nutrition, this one has changed my life the most. Inform yourself, you have your health (and life) to lose!

Fascinating, infuriating reading, July 16, 2000
At a time when our government buys huge milk surpluses, corporate giant Monsanto invented a way to get cows to produce more milk. Despite evidence that their invention caused illness in cows (leading to an increased level of antibiotics in their milk) and could cause and accelerate the growth of cancer, Monsanto was able to get their product approved by the FDA BY GETTING TWO KEY RESEARCHERS AND THEIR LAWYER ON THE PROJECT HIRED AT THE FDA. The researchers reviewed their own research, upped the "acceptable" level of antibiotics in milk by 100 times to accommodate their findings and then the lawyer rewrote policies to keep milk from cows treated with the new drug from being labeled, so the American public has been prevented from even knowing what they are drinking. Congress is also involved, accepting donations from the dairy industry and Monsanto. During this time many state laws were passed against disparaging food items, so now in many ways it's actually illegal to COMPLAIN about this (remember Oprah being sued over beef?). In fact, Monsanto actually sued two dairies who advertised they were NOT using the new drug. There are so many conflicts of interest in this story that your blood will boil. Hopefully it will inspire you to act, before Monsanto is able to pay and lie their way into changing the makeup of all our foods, not just milk. The book is a bit repetitive at times and some parts are difficult to read, but it is WELL worth your time. Read it.

Compelling and comprehensive review of a national concern., August 4, 1999

The author has passionately described in great detail the thing that most people do not want to hear. Cohen is attacking the the first cousin of apple pie, Mom, and the flag - milk. We all have drank it for years and most don't want to think about giving it up. However, if Mr. Cohen is correct (and I believe he is), you have a responsibilty to yourself and your family to test it out. Mr. Cohen is fighting an uphill battle, but I believe he is causing a groud swell of the population that is taking health into their own hands. The Wall Street Journal's (Aug 3) front page talked about the surge of non dairy milks (soy) and it's continued growing popularity. Read Mr. Cohen's book (stay with it, it isn't easy reading) and you will become convicted to research this topic even further. sjc
