5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and heart-warming, July 12, 1999
By joyces@maisd.com (Stanton, Michigan) - See all my reviews
Having grown up about 60 miles from Clare and having recently visited Skagway, White's book captured my heart. As I read his book I could "see" Broadway, the towering mountains surrounding Skagway, the cruise ships at the end of the dock, etc. A small town Michigan boy who followed his dreams and shared his experiences will make you laugh, cry and wonder what will happen next. A must read book for anyone who loves the beauty, tranquility and adventures of Alaksa.

4.0 out of 5 stars I found this a "hard-to-put-down" book!, February 24, 1999
While it is no classic work of literature, White's story telling often touched my heart. Every story brought forth unexpected emotions, ranging from suspense and fright of wilderness experiences to the sadness of lost love. White writes about "matters-of-the-heart" issues which we all experience as part of our search for our own destiny.

This is not just a collection of short stories, it is collection of the "defining moments" of White's journey in search of himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding depiction of police work in the wilds of Alaska!, May 13, 1999
By Lora L. Wilson (Papillion, NE USA) - See all my reviews
White's humor and gentleness make this book a must-read for law enforcement types, wilderness lovers, and those blessed with a special affection for Alaksa. Once Alaska touches you with her magic spell, it stays within your soul forever. Alan White captures it perfectly.
