Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Whether he's outrapping the Grim Rapper, selling folks their own reflections, or passing off scarecrows as high art, Rooster is the clown prince of cockamamie. Gambler, scrambler, midnight rambler -- he'll take you on a joyride to the stars!

From the Publisher
Alas. Tricksters have fallen on hard times. Compared to Coyote, who led the Navajo up from the underworlds, and mighty Raven of the Northwest Coast, who created the world as we know it, today's tricksters, (Bugs Bunny, Wily Coyote, Yogi Bear, etc.), seem silly and insubstantial. The old time tricksters were deities, after all, Tricksters with a capital "T".

What the new millennium needs, it seems to me, is a new mythology, one invested with but not weighed down by tradition, one featuring an earthy, yet spiritual, cunningly stupid, seriously funny big "T" Trickster.

Rooster is such a bird.

And so it is with great pleasure that I invite you, your children, and your children's children, to enjoy my good friend Z. B. D. Westcoupe's Rooster Tales.

R. L. Fisher

5.0 out of 5 stars A skewed world of Uncle Wiggly meets the X-files, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
Rooster Tales are Uncle Wiggly and Aesop's Fables with a dash of Dilbert in the wild west, maybe on mushrooms, tossed into a blender, whipped into a literary margarita on the rocks, with salty characters in slippery situations, one page stories that you start out sipping and end up swigging, going from one Rooster episode right into the next, your imagination given over to the trickster's buzz.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful romp through the farmyard with The Roost!, September 18, 1999
By A Customer
Rooster is Rooster is Rooster - I think that tells you something. Rooster cannot be compared to any other creature, living or dead. He is the undisputed leader of the flock. We have all seen the rooster who does the IHOP ads - he says he is the love machine - well, I want to tell you, he learned all his moves from the Rooster! Rooster Tales is not only fun reading - but is also fun visually. I was hoper-picking around on the Net the other night and I found a site called artsnet.net and I want to tell you, I was REALLY surprised to find there a picture of Z.B.D. Westcoupe and Jaggy B. When you see Mr. Westcoupe I think you will have some understanding of how the Rooster came to be. There is the look of the trickster in HIS eye - and I guess he just passed it on. The book is a total delight and would make a perfect gift for anyone of any age!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wily Coyote Eat Your Heart Out!, September 13, 1999
By A Customer
Rooster Tales is an excellent book involving the exploits of Rooster, a skinny two-legged cartoon-like creature. The entire book is lettered like a cartoon. The stories are told by this cranky old guy named Z. B. D. Westcoupe who meets Rooster at a boogie woogie piano playing contest. Of course, being a Trickster, Rooster wins. The book is set in Gull Wing County, a very unusual place where animals and humans intermingle. Rooster gets into all kinds of hilarous mischief. In one story he makes a killing selling people their own reflections. In another he out-raps the Grim Rapper. I highly recommend this book. The only problem is it leaves you wanting more!
