Editorial Reviews

Review
A needed and invaluable source of practical, insightful information for both survivors ... and the professionals who work with them. -- Jean Lewis, Parents of Murdered Children, Inc.

Only someone who has experienced personal tragedy could be so effective in providing this kind of support and guidance. -- Bob Wallace, Chief of Police Magazine

Product Description
The Third Edition of "What To Do When The Police Leave" expands on the landmark work of the Second Edition. Written by a victim for other victims and their caregivers, this book offers authoritative and invaluable advice, guidance, and resources for families dealing with the traumatic loss of a family member or friend.

New to this edition are sections on crime scene cleanup, unsolved cases, grief in the workplace, a new chapter entitled "Long-Term Grief: Living The Marathon," and a Foreword by best-selling author Patricia Cornwell.

Finalist in the category of Best First Book in the Publishers Marketing Association's Benjamin Franklin Awards 2000, "What To Do When The Police Leave" is being used by victim assistance programs, clergy, funeral homes, and police departments across North America as they work with and serve the bereaved. It is recognized as one of the most valuable resources available for grieving families.

This one of a kind resource is heart-to-heart practical advice from one who has been through the trenches of grief and loss, encouraging and helping others in their own paths. The victims' voice has never spoken so clearly.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely helpful and practical guide, December 27, 2007
By M. Romig (Fullerton, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There are many books that talk about grief, but this book is a practical help and guide for people who find themselves suddenly thrust into the complicated situations that come from the sudden loss of a loved one due to murder or suicide. It talks plainly about dealing with the legal system, the police, the media, etc. I have kept a copy on hand for years and sadly, just had to give one to a friend of mine whose brother was murdered. She has found it to be eminently helpful in the midst of a confusing and difficult time.

5.0 out of 5 stars What To Do When the Police Leave, April 24, 2007
By Carolyn "Carolyn" (Miami, FL USA) - See all my reviews
The ONLY book that deals with the specifics of sudden loss. All police departments should carry this book. If you know of someone who has recently suffered a sudden loss (death not due to illness), please get them this book.
