5.0 out of 5 stars Lyrical Writing and Inspired Scholarship, May 21, 2003
By Donna Nielsen (Salt Lake City, Utah United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Karen Boren has performed an astounding feat with this publication. The "Riddle of the Red Heifer" has baffled wise men since Solomon, and its solution has eluded the most erudite of thinkers since that time. By turning her deductive skills, wide-ranging research, dogged persistence, and gifted intuition to the riddle, she clarifies what only baffled before and makes the answer so obvious that we can only marvel.
Everything about this book is first-class: the scholarship is solid, yet accessible to a lay audience, the scope is encyclopedic, and her bibliographies are a gift to those of us who delight in finding fascinating new source texts. A thoughtful reader cannot fail to be impressed with how astonishingly well written the entire book is. It is a book that invites reading and studying on multiple levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Messiah and the Wine Press, September 26, 2007
I loved reading about the way in which the author came to learn these important things compiled in her book. It enriched my knowledge base greatly and helped me to put into perspective the temple rituals of the Ancient days.
Subsequent to the reading of this book, I came to meet the author and have continued to enjoy the depth of this book and her research. The bibliographies in the book have inspired me to purchase some of these books and to take nearly the same journey, though I have not made it to Israel yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading., February 23, 2007
The author did a lot of research using Jewish and Christian sources.

The sacrifice for sin was fulfilled with Messiah's crucifixion so a third temple is not needed. That makes the red heifer sacrifice obsolete in my opinion.

One chapter stands out in this book. "Though your sins be as scarlet" was very good.

The topic of the Eastern gate being the Beautiful gate rather than the Golden gate was interesting.

I never heard of Vendyl Jones or the Copper Scroll before I read this book. The search for Temple artifacts and Mr. Jones discoveries and their possible relation to Jeremiah's cave and Hezekiah's exit were very interesting.

Another point of interest for me was a quote from The Torah-A Modern Commentary - "Every parchment or paper, religious or secular,on which the name of God had been inscribed was preserved, and when no longer in use, hidden away in storage."
This may explain why scrolls were buried and discovered later.

This book is easy to read and has plenty of notes.
