Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Denied. How could that be? he thought, while waiting on hold with the bank. He had deposited more than $2,000 only two days before. Three hours later he was to learn that someone had not only used his debit card fraudulently, but two other credit cards as well. Today was not looking good, but this was only the tip of the iceberg. At work he was to find an email from an anonymous source listing all the websites he had visited and all the emails and Usenet posts he had sent over the last two months

"If you're looking for an Internet privacy guidebook, one that will help you navigate the endless and sometimes conflicting information on the Internet, you have found it."

"A cool and easy read...from anonymity to encryption you can learn to do it all."

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a good introduction to internet privacy, April 13, 2000
By Joe Christopher (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
If your like a lot of people I know you have heard a lot about internet privacy, the risks and so on. You have "heard" of cookies, logging, stalkers and information gathering but it all sounded to far away or just not relevant. The book tells it how it is in plain english what the risks are how it works and what can be done or in some cases what can't be done about it. I bought this book for my parents and read it before giving it to them. I am a programmer so I know a lot of this stuff already and though the book was a little light for me I found that even I felt more comfortable after reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone who uses the internet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful guide for protecting my privacy on the internet., April 11, 2000
By Jeff Warren (Denver, Colorado) - See all my reviews
We live in a world where computers and the internet are constantly becoming more and more important to our daily lives. With email flying around, ecommerce sites requiring credit card numbers, and chat rooms open for anybody's perusal, it is easy to find information on just about anybody. That makes me feel uncomfortable, and it should make EVERYBODY who uses the internet feel uncomfortable.

Reading this book put some of my fears to rest, heightened my awareness of the information available to others, and even made me chuckle. This book has a considerable amount of information, which pushed my expertise up a few levels, and provided for a quick read.

I recommend this book to anybody who desires to learn more about the intense subject of internet privacy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Navigating foreign waters, December 19, 2000
By Michael Rosado (Bronx, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This is an affordable, compact guide. It is essential, especially if you are new to the internet, and need a thorough lowdown on how to protect yourself, whether you are sending an email, downloading a file, or just surfing the net. I recommend this handy little book in anyone's laptop case, or desk top. Personally I've been stuffing stockings with them!
