Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This is the newly updated and acclaimed map series to historic Route 66 by nationally known road historians Jerry McClanahan and Jim Ross. Designed for today's tourists, this packaged set of eight fold-out roadmaps, one for each Route 66 state, provides a "through" route and offers clear, detailed driving directions as motorists take the historic journey down America's legendary highway. Generously illustrated with original nostalgia art, points of interest and historical text, these are the only accurate, documented, maps to today's Route 66 in existence. Freshly updated for the year 2000, the Route 66 Map Series is an absolute must for every cruiser.

About the Author
Route 66 artist and road historian Jerry McClanahan of Corsicana, Texas, has been traveling, mapping, and painting America's Main Street since 1980. Jerry sees his art as a contribution to the commemoration and celebration of our highway heritage. An "old road" detective, his documented trip notes from years of research were essential ingredients to this map series.

Freelance writer Jim Ross is an avid Route 66 enthusiast and preservationist who has spent a decade exploring and charting Route 66 and its web of intricate routings. Dozens of his articles have appeared in a variety of national magazines, and he is the author of "Oklahoma Route 66." He lives on historic Route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma.

In 1998, Ross and McClanahan, along with Anderson Productions, produced and co-hosted the documentary Route 66 video, "Bones of the Old Road."

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm!, August 17, 2001
By Greg Vojtko (Wildomar, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Just back from nine-day trip from Chicago to Southern California on Route 66. This set of maps was our main guide to The Mother Road. Artwork seems crude, but when you get out there and start driving you'll find that it's generally sufficient, and when you get in trouble (translation: Lost, it happens to all of us sometimes!) the written description is enough to get you back on track!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Guide to the Mother Road, January 8, 2004
By Pat Bremer (Speedway, Indiana) - See all my reviews
Throughout my 10 year interest in Route 66, I've read just about every guidebook there is that will get you from Chicago to Santa Monica. Hands down, Here It Is! The Route 66 Map Series is not only the best bang for your buck, but it's also the most accurate. Sure, fancy slick pages with nice color photos are nice to look at in most guidebooks on the market, but they won't do you much good when they misdirect you. Jim & Jerry have created the standard all guidebooks should follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Navigating 66 A Sunday Drive in the Park, January 23, 2000
By T.A.Repp (Seattle) - See all my reviews
Easy to read, wonderfully artistic and simple to fold to boot, The Route 66 Map Series makes navigating the old road a Sunday drive in the park. Each individual state map contains detailed written directions broken into sections--as well as an encapsulated history of the Mother Road in that particular state. Pen-and-ink master Jerry McClanahan fills the maps with drawings of classic 66 icons like the Capistrano Courts and the Lone Yucca Motel signs. My nomination for the Series' best feature: The maps include modern-day Interstate exit numbers so you can join or leave Route 66 at your leisure--indispensable when you're motoring west on a schedule.
