Business for Beginners, September 17, 2000
Some years ago my husband and I started a small consumer electronics export business in San Jose, California, "Silicon Valley". If this book had existed at the time, it would have saved us weeks, maybe even months, of time that we spent gathering basic information from a variety of sources. This book has all the basics, all in one place, with real-life examples and suggestions in a usable and practical workbook format. This may not be the only book you need to get started in business, but it certainly should be the first book you get.

This book has saved me thousands of dollars!, July 6, 2001
I just want to thank Peter J. Patsula for all the help that he has done me by putting out this awesome book! A few months ago, I decided that I didn't want to continue working for someone else and instead wanted to be my own boss. I came across Mr. Patsula's book and within days, I was filled with a sense of confidence and understanding that has definitively helped me in starting out with my own business.I literally saved thousands of my hard earned dollars by following the easy to understand chapters on setting up a logical, effective, business plan. After going through the clearly written and inspiring chapters, I found that I had the motivation and focus that I needed to get off the couch and go achieve my dream of being a business owner. I am now the proud owner of a small business in the New York area, and I'm earning triple my old salary working way fewer hours. Thank you Peter J. Patsula for showing me how to make an effective business plan. It really works!!

One day at a time ..., November 28, 2003
By A Customer
A friend recommended this book to me. I was skeptical at first skimming through it, because there's so much information, but with a little patience, I began to see the big picture. It's well organized. Once I worked through a couple of days of worksheets (the worksheets are nicely organized day by day at the end of each section), I began thinking more and more like a business woman. I'm now going through my day thinking about logos and mission statements, target markets etc., and it doesn't come easy, because good ideas never do, but it's exciting. I'm starting to see my business ... my own ideas. There's a good range of examples to help you get your wordings right. Generally, I don't like books that tell readers how easy it is to start a business, providing inspiration without substance, because businesses just aren't that simple. Otherwise, we would all quit our jobs tomorrow. And I don't like textbooks. This book has a nice balance. Some problems though are that it has a lot more information than I can digest in one sitting. So I'm working through it one day at a time, as much as I can. I'm on Day 23. Another complaint I have, I guess, not about the book though, is that starting a business involves a lot more planning than I thought it would. I wish it had more sample business plans, though it has a fairly good one about an online health business, and some of the forms could also have a little more space for writing ideas, some more thinking room. I also came across some typos. But these are minor complaints. Overall, well organized and well worth the money.
