Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Whole-Body Dentistry is an attractive and well-executed lay-person's guide to sensible dental decision-making. Written in a refreshingly open, simple and accessible first person style, the author's passion, dedication and vast clinical experience is abundantly clear.Whole-Body Dentistry is logically and compellingly organized starting with a personal account of Dr. Breiner's journey from an advocate of the "party line" offered by conventional dentistry to an advocate of wellness through data-based (not politically correct) choices. Believing that "if you wish to understand the body and healing, you must be willing to explore and learn from new ideas and from your patient's responses", this book serves another function as well. It documents the admirable course which every healing professional should take from predigested teaching to courageous exploration which follows wherever the data leads.

Our culture is currently in the midst of a great paradigm evolution. Scientism (rigidly adhering to dogma) battles science (which dares question all previous truths fearlessly). This is beautifully exemplified by the tension between "conventional" and "alternative" medicines. Practitioners like Dr. Breiner, by following their patient's clinical realities in integrity, despite personal cost, light the path to the new options for excellence.

But Whole-Body Dentistry does more: by offering simple, clear and concise information it informs and opens possibilities for patients who wish to become active and knowledgeable participants in their health care. Abundant clinical examples illustrate the points of each chapter nicely.

This is a book free of bombast or apology which eloquently provides an essential guide to new concepts and better choices. Written for non-professional audiences, the quality of the information is high enough to provide useful orientation and direction for professionals as well.

This patient education book belongs on the shelves of professionals and in the hands of the public. I recommend it highly.

Rima E. Laibow, MD, Medical Director,Alexandria Institute of Natural and Integrative Medicine, Croton on Hudson, NY

From the Back Cover

"An important book for everyone who is interested in participating in their own health." Bernie Siegel, M.D., Author of Love, Medicine and Miracles and Prescriptions for Living

"Mark Breiner's new book, Whole Body Dentistry, is the cutting edge of telling the truth about the options you have when you go to a dental office." Gary Null, Ph.D Public Health Scientist Author, Get Healthy Now!

"Your total, physical health does depend on your dental health. Dr. Breiner shows you how and why - and gives you fascinating stories to prove it." Jerome Mittelman, D.D.S. Editor, The Holistic Dental Digest

"I would recommend Dr. Mark Breiner unconditionally just on the basis of my 25+ years as one of his dental patients. AND now he has written a surprisingly interesting, highly informative, easy- to-read book. WHOLE BODY DENTISTRY is easy enough for newcomers to digest yet it contains sufficient information to entice even advanced health practitioners. I was intrigued by how by how much I was learning as I read it." Barbara Hoberman Levine, Author of Your Body Believes Every Word You Say: The Language of the Body/Mind Connection

"In a powerful call-to-arms, Mark Breiner challenges the Medical and Dental professions to recognize that the teeth are vital living structures that impact the health of the entire body, so that the old song should include "the tooth bone connected to the heart bone" as well as innumerable other structures. His expos of the risks to the patient, the dentist and the chair side assistant from exposure to mercury is clear and well-documented, as are the dangers of fluoride. The sections on Root Canals and Cavitations (NICO's) are mind-boggling! Everyone should read this book!" Warren M. Levin, M.D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! A lifetime work!, June 4, 2000
By Martin Buchholtz (Watertown, MA, United States) - See all my reviews
Mark Breiner not only has decades of experience in whole-body dentistry, he also backs his well-researched subject matter with references so that it is impossible for anyone to ignore plain facts about the evident connections between our teeth and our body.

Mark Breiner shows how certain dental procedures (for instance the implantation of dental amalgam into our teeth; or root canal fillings) effect our physical, mental & emotional states. He uses case studies for illustration, which makes long-ignored facts even more evident.

He also provides very detailed information and gives recommendations on other subjects such as dental-amalgam removal procedures, bridges, root canals, wisdom teeth, cavitations, etc.

An excellent book. The best there was, is, and perhaps ever will be. It was invaluable to me and thanks to Mr. Breiner have fully regained my health.

I recommend it to everyone! Become the caretaker of your own body, health, and happiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Information about Whole Body Dentistry, March 9, 2006
By Avanda Demperio (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This was a very informative and well written book about "alternative dentistry". Dr. Breiner explains the differences between traditional and whole body dentistry in easy to understand terms. He gave many examples of the types of health problems which can be related to amalgams, root canals, periodontal work, orthodontics and bridges and partials. He also described the kind of exam and treatment a whole body dentist would use. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great review of non-conventional dentistry and its solutions, August 12, 2002

Overall this is a great book on how you should plan your dental care, and how conventional dentistry could be a danger to your health. The author lists many non-conventional treatments and how they can help you in caring for your teeth.

There are many topics covered by this book besides the debate regarding mercury ("amalgam" fillings).

I saw that one reviewer here disliked the use of "EAV" (Electro-dermal Screening). I would like to provide a more detailed look at this technology. I have not seen EAV used in the dental practice, but have friends who have tried it, and I have personally seen it used (several times) to detect hidden medical problems in a non-dental area. I have had done to myself (non-dental).

Here's my take on this situation: 1) a good dentist can clearly see the major problems in your mouth and you really don't need the EAV screening in most standard cases, 2) it's value comes when the dentist can't see things visually, or doesn't see them with x-rays, 3) it must be used by a skilled practioner and this means they should know accu-puncture as well as conventional medical diagnostic techniques (being a conventional MD is a real plus), 4) the big criticism on EAV should be that it can tell WHERE the problem is, but not WHAT the problem is.

Overall, its a device for finding things... in the hands of a skilled practioner. Unfortunately, many dentists who want to go non-conventional may think that simply buying and using this equipment will make them a better dentist, or let them charge more. The problem is not the tool, but in its use, and its requirement for a skiled practioner.

Back to this book review, I think the author does a great job of presenting many different concepts of holistic dental care. I have heavily underlined this book and used its sources listed in the back.
