Gr 3-8-This simple guide is divided into two sections. Wigglebits first provides the basic commands used in writing HTML. These commands consist of five pieces of a Web page-files, words, pictures, colors, and links-with step-by-step instructions that allow readers to follow along and create a Web page using either a Mac or a PC. The second section shows the ease of using an HTML editor. Common terminology and buttons as well as steps are explained. Other topics touched on include push and pull communications, Web addresses, search engines, use of tags, bandwidth and pixels, Internet standards, and instructions for creating animation. Straightforward directions make the process easy to follow yet some unnecessary explanations may be disconcerting to those who have never been exposed to HTML code. I teach in an elementary school and we wanted our teachers to develop more of a web presence for our school. I used Wanda's book to instruct the teachers how to build classroom web pages. This book gave them all the basic information they needed about the web, html, gifs and animated gifs. Then, when the teachers worked in a web editor, they had some concept of how it worked. This book is a must for schools just developing a web site or teachers trying to develop pages for their class. I believe our 4th and 5th graders could use it to learn to create web pages.

Teachers and their students are provided with a hands-on project with "user friendly" and accessible instruction that covers every aspect (HTML, web editors, standards, bandwidth, search engine placement, animation, etc.) of building a school website. If you are inexperienced with developing and operating a website for your class or school, then begin by a careful reading of Wanda Wigglebits' Building A School Web Site!
