A serious yoga practice involves a real commitment, and make no mistake about it: Naader Shagagi's
The Power of Hatha Yoga is a serious undertaking. It is long, with some 80 minutes of poses following an introduction; there are a lot of poses, some of them quite advanced; and despite the claim that it's "for people of all ages and all levels of fitness," a lot of beginners may find themselves bewildered by the pace and complexity of the practice. That said, it should be emphasized that this is an excellent tape. Shagagi knows his stuff, and he presents it with no frills. He offers concise instruction, useful encouragement, and insight that extends beyond the purely physical to the importance of such elements as concentration, will, and energy. As for the practice itself, it's divided into two 40-minute sections. The first includes sun salutes and various standing positions, ranging from the common (warrior, tree, etc.) to relatively esoteric poses; the second part focuses on reclining postures, backbends, inversions, and forward bends.

This film is a powerful statement to the beauty, grace, and value of Hatha when fervently followed.
