5.0 out of 5 stars Learn more about North America's fastest growing sport, October 6, 1999
Want to learn more about North America's fastest growing winter sport? Need a refresher course on the safe operation of your machine? Or are you tired of getting your sled stuck and spending all day getting it out? Then a new book from the father and son team of Dave and James Hallam called, Snowmobiling - For trail Riding and Mountain Riders, is the handbook for you. This self published book by Fun On Snow Publications is proving to be an indespensable manual that both experienced and novice snowmobilers will find to be an excellent resource. The Hallams have over 44 years of combined experience, so they know of what they speak. "I see so many people starting out in snowmobiling that simply don't really know where to start," stated Dave Hallam from his home in Abbotsford. "So we've designed this book with a strong safety message. A new rider needs to be cautious. They need to learn to enjoy the outdoor experience but also have a healthy respect fro winter's harsh elements." Hallam believes that experienced riders will benefit from their handbook as well. He says,"We all require this kind of solid, basic information because knowledge will always safeguard a snowmobiler. We all want to get out and enjoy the wonderful sport of sledding but at the same time we have to be careful not to get caught up in just the performance aspect of today's high powered machines." This informative book is much more than just a "tips" book. It is written in a clear, easy-to-read style that discusses important subjects such as emergency first aid, avalanche awareness, easy steering setup, how to get unstuck the easy way, focuses on both trail and mountain riding, trouble shooting and much, much more. Over the years Dave and James Hallam have logged thousands of miles on the trails. They believe it is time to give back something to the sport that has brought so much enjoyment over the years.

5.0 out of 5 stars snowmobiling[sledders complete handbook], January 31, 2001
By murray mills (prince george british columbia canada) - See all my reviews
Strong safety message: Trail riding and mt riding are different and this is why I bought this book. Having both riding styles included in one book got my attention. This book is to the point with many usefull tips acquired by the authors themselves. It is not a performance or repair manual but rather a snowmobiling how to book. However it does cover all the basics. 17 chapters in all and saint johns first aid included. Throw this book in your snowmobile trunk knowing the survival chapter could come in handy.
