"This book is a must for every therapist working with children and adolescents. Liana has a way of presenting techniques and games in a clear and practical way. Clinicians will find the material in this text to be simple yet innovative and creative. I highly recommend this book as a valuable resource for anyone who works with troubled youngsters." -- Sandra Foster, MA., President, Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy

"This work by Liana Lowenstein is the essence of creativity itself. The activities are based on sound developmental principles and grounded in a rich understanding of the psychological issues that children and youth struggle with. The book is written in a clear and accessible format that all those who work with troubled children will find imaginative and inspirational. Truly, a fine addition to the professional bookshelf." -- William S. Rowe, PhD. Director, School of Social Work, McGill University

Aptly named, this resource is filled with creative interventions that help our youth to navigate the troubled waters of childhood. Covering topics that range from emotional literacy to self-esteem building, the techniques presented are both practical and playful. The flexible format of the book allows room for interventions to be used for individual, family or group sessions. Mental health professionals who work with children and families will find this a valuable addition to their libraries. ---Paris Goodyear-Brown, LCSW, RPT-S

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERUL and CREATIVE!, April 13, 2000
By A Customer
Another therapist recommended this book to me for it's creativity...and I love it! It has numerous activities to do with clients. It is in sections based upon a skill, like identifying and expressing feelings, self esteem, coping and social skills. With each section it has wonderful games such as TIC-TAC-TOE FEELINGS, and COMFORT KIT, as well as variations of games we already play-like basketball or other commonly used board games, and most of the games supplies are in the book or can be easily found in your office (or bought for pretty cheap). It also has a little graduation section and a bibliography. I love this book for so many reasons, but it really helped with ideas for kids who are not into traditional therapy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money Well Spent, July 4, 2005
I am a social worker who often works with oppositional and resistant children. This book offers several fresh ideas on interacting and engaging children so that they will begin to talk about their feelings. I have been very impressed with the several activities and have found that they can be applied to children of various ages with very little work. I think this book is a must for anyone who works with children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative, but Easy, February 25, 2006
The activities in this book are well organized and simple. Most do require some type of preparation and some materials. Some of the activities use games; others use art therapy, etc. This is an invaluable resource for me in therapy session with children and adolescents. The kids have always been interested in the interventions I have used from this book. This is therapy without the child KNOWING it's therapy.
Highly recommended.
