Well written book on creating hinges of all kinds. Very easy to read, with plenty of clear illustrations.

Author's care for the craft of metals shows through in every page. Technically done very well.

The book is 8 1/2 x 11 and is only 110 pages... but that belies the density of practical information crammed on each page. I probably have underlined every other sentence.

I also have his video on shooting pictures of your products, which is also excellent. I ordered both the book and the video through Amazon.

I highly recommend this great book on hinges.

As the author we were very proud of this book. It was the first one we gave ourselves an 'A' on. It covers hinges and hinged catches more widely than any other text in English or German. We used focus groups and professional goldsmithing readers to cross check everything as it was written. The book is still in print and is available. As an amateur jeweler still working on basic skills, this book serves at least two purposes. The first big one is to present techniques within my modest range, allowing me to create works articulated in a huge variety of ways. Directions are clear, well illustrated, and cover all the steps and gotchas. Best of all, this presents a range of techniques that require only modest ability and equipment, but that promise exceptional results.

The second big purpose in this book is to show how the pros do things. Even if some technique lies outside my abilities (at least for now), this trains my eye to understand what I see in others' work. It also gives me something to aspire to, once my fabrication skills get good enough.

Plenty of helpful hints and tips appear along the way, sometimes tangential to the book's nominal subject. The section on fabricating tubing, in particular, addresses needs (and frustrations) I've had. For example, it offers a technique that might help close the seam cleanly, without the butt joint opening into more of a V-groove. My own solutions work, but this sound like a real improvement. I recommend this to anyone who wants to add a new range of skills to their metalworking repertoire.
