5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling anthology of true life stories, February 10, 2001
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
The Heart Behind The Hero is a compelling anthology of true life stories, essays and poems contributed by firefighters and paramedics across the country. Touching, inspiring, heartwarming, dramatic, superbly written and presented, The Heart Behind The Hero reveals the emotions, feelings, and spirit of today's American firefighters and rescue workers in their own words. The humor, pathos, heartbreak, and hard work is clearly evident as the contributors pay tribute to their colleagues and comrades who sacrificed their lives doing a job they loved in service to the communities in which they lived. Here is a fascinating "window" into the lifestyles and thoughts of brave men and women whose heroism is routine and whose sacrifices are the stuff of which legends are made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Inside Perspective, October 1, 2000
By Wayne C. Jasper (Pacific Northwest) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Curt and Karen Yoder have hit the mark with this incredible inside perspective of firefighters and there daily challenges. This book makes it very clear that there is more to firefighting than a job, it takes "Heart" as well to venture into the unknown on a daily basis. The different stories within the story show that this is the case across the country no matter the scenario. As a professional firefighter for over 15 years, I'm proud to be a part of this brotherhood and its nice to see a book written from this perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Heart Behind The Hero, August 24, 2000
By ED KEYSER (Laguna Woods, CA) - See all my reviews
This is a delightful collection of short firefighting related stories, that will hold your attention to the very end. It touches your emotions from love and laughter to grief and dispair. Highly recommended for light reading. It will touch the hearts of children as well as the elderly. If you can read or be read to, this book is for you.
