Product Description

Living in the shadow of the American Dream and the Super Mom or Super Dad image only adds to the frustration of having too many responsibilities. Those who play the roles of parent, bread winner, employee, spouse, friend and colleague, feel the walls close in but often have no idea of how to stop being overwhelmed -- or of how to minimize and overcome the obstacles that prevent them from taking care of themselves.

Self-Care Now! 30 Ways to Overcome Obstacles That Prevent You From Taking Care of Yourself, explores and describes the core obstacles that prevent you from practicing self-care and getting more from your life -- and provides logical and insightful ways to overcome those obstacles. This indispensable and informational guide explores how complex emotions like shame, the fear of "selfishness" and the concept of guilt become the myths that trap and smother your ability to practice of self-care. With 30 substantial and insightful tips -- plus a self-care quiz -- you'll learn how to get beyond the fear, discouragement and exhaustion that often plague those whose lives are “overly full”.

From the Author

My personal challenges include...being a small business owner and author, coping with my own chronic illness and being a family caregiver for the second time; with my mom now and with my father prior to his death. My core belief is that by translating our hopes into actions, we create success and happiness in our lives-even with all our responsibilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incisive and therapeutic, February 5, 2002
Pauline Salvucci, M.A., has written a booklet that is both brief and helpful for anyone seeking to improve how they take care of themselves. Self-care is also crucial for anyone who takes care of other people--you can't get water from a dry well.

Speaking from experience as both a personal and professional coach, psychotherapist, and teacher, Ms. Salvucci clarifies the major obstacles to self-care (fear of selfishness, guilt, and shame) and pinpoints ways to overcome them. I found her suggestions to be both incisive and therapeutic, helping us to clear out negative thoughts and behaviors and implement new and more helpful ones.
