1.0 out of 5 stars Animation with character studio 3, April 14, 2001
By Jose A Ortiz "ortizanimationz" (Farmingdale, new York United States) - See all my reviews
A Waste... First off the Book is actually a low quality pamphlet, with no color samples and faded Xerox lettering throughout its pages.A badly printed picture of a 3D figure on regular 8.5X 11 laminated paper, make up the books' cover..While the book is written in a simple format, the writer assumes too much, in terms of the readers' knowledge of Character Studio...The Writer also isn't very thorough with the samples, leaving out important steps, and filling the book's two hundred plus pages, with a large and blocky text...Even with the lame attempt at raising the Books' pages, the subject of "Physique" (the process of associating the biped, and mesh) is loosely covered on just one page,(actually half a page, considering the font size). To add insult to injury most, if not all, of the exercises that are used on the tutorial CD(as well as the whole Book's Format),are from "Character Studio 2.2" Which has been known to have issues with Character Studio 3,making the Title of this Book, Deceiving To Say the Least....Overall A cheap, and shoddy attempt at making an easy buck..

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes the difficult concepts of CS easy to understand, August 22, 2001
By CAD Guy (Cleveland, OH USA) - See all my reviews
Animation with Character Studio 3 is the best resource available for learning CS 3. The topics and concepts are explained clearly and the example projects provide hands-on, step-by-step demonstrations of this applications capabilities. This book is a required text for my level II students and should be in the library of anyone wanting to learn the program.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start for learning Character Studio, September 18, 2001
By Patrick D Bunt (WA United States) - See all my reviews
This book does what it sets out to do- to "introduce the fundamentals of character studio and make them so easy to grasp that you will be able to read and understand the character studio manual with ease", as stated in the Introduction. The tutorials in the CS manual are hard to follow, and don't explain what concepts they are trying to teach- the exercizes in this book serve as a good replacement. You will still need to go back to the manual after reading through this book, however.
