5.0 out of 5 stars This is a special book, July 23, 2001
By "lesgee" (Alameda, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I am torn how to rate this book. I have read all of Glenn's books and have attended 2 weeks of very intensive seminars, and know the preciousness of this book, but I'm not sure a newcomer can appreicate what they have. The colorful chart in the front and back inside along is countless hours of research and his been taught to doctors in professional type seminars. As Glenn might says, this chart alone is worth so much.

This book is a very detailed reference book, yet easy to understand, but please take the seminar if you have a chance. Go to iahp.org

If you want an intelligent child, this book is his best work. Not the how to teach you baby to read, or math or encylopedia knowledge.

This is my bible in terms of having to continue to refer to it.

My son at 2.5 yrs could run a mile. At 3.5 can swim independently about 20 yrs.

But more importantly, the physical program allowed his respiratory system to talk earlier and at 3.5 is doing silly poetry and conversation of a 5 yr old.

But even more important, is the neulogical development of his brain. The left right left right hemispheres talking as we talk our walks.

MAKE SURE THEY CRAWL! Don't be so proud of your kids that they walk so early on. Crawl crawl crawl. It is vital!

CAN THE STROLLERS! Your hurting your children. It's sickening to see a 3,4,5 yr old in those contraptions, while my 2 yr old is running.

I'm just not sure a casual reader would pick this all up from this very informative book, which I know the authors spent lots and lots of time on.

Good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent and vital, April 17, 2001
By "genki5" (Jenkintown, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This is not a book about physical fitness! It is a tremendously important book about the relationship between physical development and brain development. I saw it work firsthand with my sister, who had a dyslexic problem. After our parents applied the techniques and principles in this book (as well as the other books by Glenn Doman), she had no trouble reading at all. Her speech and coordination improved, as well. She is now an editor, and attended Oxford University (Hertford College) as a Literature major. If all parents read this book, there would be no more "ADD," no more" dyslexia," and no more flat-headed babies wearing $5,000 helmets. If you are expecting, or if you have a young child, read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, February 12, 2002
By jumpy1 (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Years ago, Glenn Doman was a pioneer in research on dyslexia and brain processes. It was through Doman and Delcato's work that the need for crawling to activate the right and left hemispheres was discovered. Since the 1960's education and research has come a long way from there, but the basic ideas have not changed, and Glenn Doman has held to his theories with religious fervor! While I would not want my child to attend his school or go as far as showing them Gray's Anatomy before the age of 7, (the children at his school never seem very happy to me) I can easily recommend THIS book without reservation. It has all the relevant information for you to take or leave as you wish. It demonstrates how simple activities that all children delight in (and already DO when left alone) are actually exceptional tools for brain development. And, it isolates and explains the ones that have the most powerful effect.

This book helps parents understand the role of these natural inclinations as it shows them how to encourage and assist the child by creating an environment where its instinctive movements and curiosity can be followed through safely. This is invaluable at the very time now believed to be most crucial to the development of a child's quality of life.

Whenever a friend or relative has a baby, this book is my first gift to them. The ones who try the exercises tell me they notice a positive difference in their child almost immediately (in areas of comprehension, coordination and overall intelligence). It has clear and colorful diagrams, development timelines and large pictures. It will be necessary to get past Doman's zeal if that kind of thing turns you off, but if you take what you like and leave what you don't, this book will prove itself invaluable.
