About the Author
Myelita Melton, founder of SpeakEasy Communications, remembers the first time she heard a "foreign" language. She knew from that moment what she wanted to do with her life. "Since I was always the kid in class that talked too much," Myelitia says, "I figured it would be a good idea to learn more than one language- that way I could talk to a lot more people!" After high school, she studied in Mexico at the Instituto de Filológica Hispánica and completed both her BA and MA in French and Curriculum Design at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She has studied and speaks five languages: French, Spanish, Italian, German, and English. "Litas" unique career includes classroom instruction and challenging corporate experience. She has won several national awards, including a prestigious Rockefeller scholarship. In 1994 she was named to Whos Who Among Outstanding Americans. Myelitas corporate experience includes owning a television production firm, working with NBCs Spanish news division, Canal de Noticias, and Charlottes PBS affiliate WTVI. In her spare time, she continues to broadcast with WDAV, a National Public Radio affiliate near Lake Norman in North Carolina where she lives.
In 1997 Myelita started SpeakEasy Communications to offer industry specific Spanish instruction in North Carolina. The company is now the nations leader in Spanish training, offering over 30 SpeakEasy Spanish programs and publications to companies, associations, and colleges throughout the US.
Lita is also a member of the National Speakers Association and the National Council for Continuing Education and Training. Many of her clients say she is the most high-energy, results-oriented speaker they have ever seen. As she travels the country speaking on cultural diversity issues in the workplace and languages, she has truly realized her dream of being able to talk to the world.
