Product Description
Amish Mennonite Recipes & Traditions reflects a belief in living simply and eating well. With the culture historically rooted in cultivating the bounty of the land, food fresh from their own gardens are prepared for the table or preserved for future sustenance. This collection of over 100 recipes comes from traditional Amish Mennonite gatherings, family, and friends. Thrift and good use of nature's blessings are apparent, as in "Poor Man's Steak," which is often served at weddings or other large gatherings.
About the Author
This book was complied by Mary Hellen Miller, who raised four sons with her husband, Nelson, in the country near Kalona, Iowa, known as Iowa's Amishland. She grew up in the Mennonite tradition, which accepts more modern conveniences. The philosophy that "faith and action are bound to relieve human suffering" has played an active role in the Miller family. They have all served in some capacity to offer humanitarian aid in Central America and in Alaska.
