Over 600 copies of the book have sold already and its word of mouth success led us to place it on Amazon.com.

The Prostatitis Syndromes has been a collaborative effort. Early versions of the monograph were edited by readers and the current version incorporates their suggestions.

About the Author
Dr. Bradley Hennenfent is a graduate of Northwestern University, the University of Illinois Medical School, and the University of Illinois Affiliated Hospitals Emergency Medicine Residency Program.

He first became interested in the prostate when his Uncle Steve, who inspired him to attend medical school, died from his treatment for prostate cancer in 1984.

As the author researched the prostate, he became increasingly dismayed by the drastic operations that men were being subjected to without an understanding of their consequences. He discovered that the methods of diagnosis and treatment of prostatitis and BPH were controversial and that the research published by urologists is substantially flawed.

Dr. Hennenfent became a men’s health activist. He began doing original research. He founded the Internet newsgroups sci.med.prostate.cancer, sci.med.prostate.bph, and sci.med.prostate.prostatitis. He was also one of the founders of the Internet Prostate Problems Mailing List. Together with his father, Mike Hennenfent, he cofounded the nonprofit Prostatitis Foundation, which has helped hundreds of thousands of men.

Dr. Hennenfent has been published in the British Journal of Urology, the Digital Urology Journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Consultant, EMERGINDEX, Techniques in Urology, and the Journal of Pelvic Surgery (pending).

Besides being a physician, Dr. Hennenfent is also an economist who believes that a well-designed health care system is more important to the health of a nation’s people than a physician’s skill and knowledge. He has traveled the world doing medical research and studying health-care delivery systems.

Dr. Hennenfent is a polished speaker who has delivered more than forty-five lectures at various hospitals. He owns a patent that enables less painful digital rectal examinations and prostatic massage.

Dr. Hennenfent has spent time educating congress on the need for prostatitis research and has helped secure millions of dollars in federal funding for prostatitis research.

Among the author’s heroes are Jessica Mitford, whose book, The American Way of Death, exposed the funeral industry’s exploitation of grieving relatives; Randy Shiltz, whose book, And the Band Played On, exposed the system's lack of response to the AIDS epidemic; and Hillary Johnson, author of Osler’s Web: Inside the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Epidemic, which exposed another shameful response of the medical system to a major health issue.

Dr. Hennenfent is a fan of Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics: The Manipulation of Public Opinion in America, the book by Michael Wheeler that first brought popular attention to how and why statistics are often misused; the hilarious How to Lie with Statistics by Darrell Huff; the Honest Truth about Lying with Statistics by Cooper B. Holmes; and The Cartoon Guide to Statistics by Larry Gonick and Woollcott Smith are also high on the author’s list of favorites.

Dr. Hennenfent hopes to someday open a clinical research center for prostate diseases.

I have suffered from prostate problems for over 20 years including prostatitis, enlarged prostate, pain in the genitals and problems urinating. My consultations with general practitioners, urologists and many doctors considered to be experts in their field on this matter resulted in no solution to my problems. Being told to try this drug or that drug for months at a time or that the urinalysis and other lab tests are normal or there's nothing wrong with you or it's all in your head or to try biofeedback or yoga or take an aspirin or avoid caffeine and spicy foods and on and on with useless advice felt like I was on a merry-go-round running from doctor to doctor getting absolutely nowhere. I was led to believe by the doctors I had an incurable condition but after reading Dr. Hennenfent's book you realize nothing could have been further from the truth. Dr. Hennenfent's book pulls you out of that long dark tunnel you have been kept wandering in by the medical profession for all this time not really knowing what you have and finally for the first time sheds light on and gives you an understanding of your condition. Unlike every other book written on prostate problems with nothing new to offer Dr. Hennenfent's truly innovative research and treatment methods described in "The Prostatitis Syndromes" is light years ahead in this field. After reading his book you will for the first time have the knowledge to take charge of your treatment and will no longer be intimidated and blindly accept the advice your doctor is giving. Dr. Hennenfent's clearly written book is easy for the layman to understand. He has an uncanny ability for taking difficult medical jargon and rewriting it in easy and simple terms. If you have prostate problems whether it's prostatitis, BPH, prostate cancer or just having urinary problems and are going thru what I've been thru or have been told you need a cysto, surgery, TURP, radiation or other invasive procedures or are on longterm medications for your prostatitis or BPH or don't have any prostate problems and just want to learn how to prevent them in the future for yourself or someone else including possibly preventing prostate cancer or just want to read an absolutely fascinating book than "The Prostatitis Syndromes" is a must read for you. Following the advice in this book 7 years ago resulted in a complete cure of all my prostate problems and I haven't had any problems since. The information in this book is invaluable and sure saved my life and it could save yours too!

I have given this book to over 500 hundred patients with prostatitis and there has been unanimous praise. This book fills a void. It educates about a disease that is not well known, not talked about, etc. It is written clearly and at a level that patients and their families can clearly understand.

It is packed full of useful information that is not readily available elsewhere. The illustrations are especially clear. I have the highest regard and respect for the author.

I have read all 11 books here, after having my year ruined by this disease. This is far and away the best book. The others do not offer a cure. The reviewer giving negative opinions seems to be a the centre of a group of spammers on the sci.med.prostatitis newsgroup. I discounted him, and his impersonations and bought the book. Good thing I did.
