Product Description
Author, Bill Harris, takes you on a fascinating journey of discovery through the structure and workings of the human mind. He then presents irrefutable, hard scientific evidence of the powerful benefits of meditation and explains how and why the human brain reacts the way it does.

Bill cites research from a host of highly acclaimed scientists (including two Nobel Laureates), from respected institutions such as Harvard Medical School, Princeton, MIT, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, University of California Medical School, UCLA, The Menninger Foundation, Marie Curie Cancer Memorial Foundation Research Department, and more.

But, more importantly, he presents this valuable information in an easy to understand, easy to apply manner, which allows even the casual reader to benefit significantly from this important new book.

Proving the scientific benefits of deep meditation is just the beginning. Harris then shows readers how they don’t have to invest years or decades practicing traditional meditation before they reap any significant benefits. He goes on to describe how anyone can use Holosync®, a proprietary audio technology developed by Centerpointe Research Institute (of which he is Director), to immediately achieve a deeper meditative state than is typically reached by masters of the traditional practice. This leads to a dramatic acceleration of mental, emotional, and spiritual change.

In Thresholds of the Mind you will learn...

The true science showing how and why meditation is the ultimate personal growth technique...

Why traditional meditation is such a slow process, and how you can get the benefits of decades of deep meditation in a fraction of the time...

The scientific principles governing mental, emotional, and spiritual change, and how you can use this information to greatly accelerate your growth...

Nine Principles which, if mastered, can change your life forever, leading to increased success, lasting happiness, and inner peace...

How to allow positive--without resistance and discomfort...

After five years of personal experimentation and study, Bill started Centerpointe Research Institute in 1989 with borrowed recording equipment set up on his kitchen table. Since then, Centerpointe has grown to include over a hundred thousand participants in 172 countries on six continents. In his role as Director of Centerpointe Research Institute, Bill is the creator of The End® Personal Growth Through Technology program. This on-going personal development program utilizes the Holosync® sound technology, embedded beneath soothing music and environmental sounds on cassette tape, to induce deep states of meditation and to cause the human nervous system to reorganize at higher levels of functioning.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, but some caviats, June 24, 2005
By Zen Druid (Aloha, OR USA) - See all my reviews
In this book, Bill Harris gives the background on his Holosync program, promotes it, and provides a number of tools for change that would be most useful for anyone using the Holosync technology. No bones about it. Problem is, I'm not really sure who the target audience would be for someone to purchase this through Amazon. If you are doing the Holosync program, you will eventually receive this book as part of the program. And you will find that it really contains nothing new that you haven't heard on the introductory CD or read in the support materials. Not that repetition isn't good and it's nice to have all the information in one handy reference.

If you have no plans to do the Holosync program, this book will really be nothing more to you than a long commercial for the product complete with pages of endorsements. You can find far more referenced sources to learn about brain entrainment technologies elsewhere if that's what you are looking for, you can read about some of the wild experiences some people have had using these techniques in Robert Monroe's books (he of Hemi-Sync fame and founder of the Monroe Institute) which pre-dated Harris' work by some time, and you can find way better books on change and spiritual growth. I guess if you think you might want to do Holosync this could give you what you need to know about it, along with getting the intro CD (I don't know why they just don't package that with the book, except then you wouldn't be on Centerpointe's mailing list).

This is NOT a knock of the Holosync technology which is great, but I think you should know what you are getting in this book if you purchase it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Watch Your Wallet, May 19, 2007
Bill Harris is a very, very bright guy. Thresholds of the Mind is an interesting book, and at times his insights are quite profound. BUT watch out for your wallet. The guy is a master salesman. First, there are the introductory Holosync meditation CDs which are relatively expensive compared to other CDs using the same technology. Then there are more levels of the meditation CDs for more $$. And then there are the online courses, the retreats, etc ... He's always looking for a way to take your money and without a doubt he does it in a very professional manner. Just be aware that there is a high level of commitment required to complete the Centerpointe program, and the total cost is quite expensive. My advice is to not get involved unless you are really, really sure you are willing to commit.

In my opinion Bill Harris is doing a service to all of us by providing an unusual and productive perspective on life, but I feel that it is very important that people understand that they should not enter into the financial commitment to the Centerpointe program without realizing that they also have to make a commitment of their own time to make the end result successful.

By the way, this is a positive review ... just think before spending your money. I think Holosync is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!, February 11, 2005
This book is a great source of explaination as to why so many of us feel so trapped by our fears, anxiety, depression, etc. Bill discusses his idea of thresholds which is the limit an individual can take in response to stress. This book is written with his meditation CD program in mind, which have to be ordered through his website. I have been in his program for two years and it is the most life changing program I have ever been involved with.

When an individual reaches a high level of stress (high level in his/her perspective) the individual's threshold is pushed against and s/he starts exhibiting negative emotion such as anxiety, anger, depression and so on. To deal with these emotions an individual uses his/her personal chosen coping mechanism. Examples of coping mechanisms are: over eating, drug/alcohol use, explosion of anger, retreating from everything (depression), becoming a workaholic, etc. In using the Holosync program (or even traditional meditation - which works, but is much slower than Holosync) the individual raises his or her threshold, which allows more tolerance in a situation. It is much like lifting weights to gain muscle, strenthening you as a person. Even if the reader is not interested in the program, the book is very interesting on its own. Anyone interested in meditation and self-help will love this book.
