Product Description

The Guidebook to Patent Law is the cornerstone to the Patent Education Series. You will use it to learn the in's and out's of patent law, to take the patent bar exam and as a reference manual throughout your career. You may even want to buy new editions of it as they become available.

Every Chapter of the current MPEP (8th edition, Revision 1) is covered and is ranked based on its importance in reference to the exam. The endless text found in the MPEP is replaced with a concise, easy to follow outline complete with summaries, key points and 'At a glance tables' that help make mastering the complex material a simpler task. The important and tested portions of the MPEP, 37 C.F.R. and 35 U.S.C. have all been incorporated into the Guidebook. All the same headings found in the MPEP are used to help with cross-referencing.

Every Chapter of the Guidebook to Patent Law includes:
-A short introduction
-A table of contents
-It's ranking on past patent bar exams
-Detailed summaries
-Key points
-All the tested information for each topic
-All the important laws and rules
-'At a glance' tables where useful

In addition, the Guidebook to Patent Law includes a detailed table of contents, a suggested tabbing system, in depth coverage of all the important material, a subject index and an index organized by law and rule. Lastly is the hot topics section which will prove useful when answering PTO exam questions.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, September 18, 2006
I bought this book when I first contemplated taking the patent bar exam. I was hoping it would provide a good basis to kick me off, but it ended up being disappointing.

Some comments are helpful, e.g. which parts of the MPEP are tested more and which are tested less heavily. However, more accurate information is available free on the internet. The old exams available at the USPTO website are extremely useful. Studying those intensely helped me a lot. A lot of people have posted their experiences taking the new computerized test in forums and wikis - those were invaluable as well.

Otherwise the main guidebook contains 90% verbatim from the MPEP and 10% summary. The MPEP however is better read online, especially trying to look up issues under test conditions, and the summary makes sense only in combination with old exams to understand why specific parts of the MPEP are more critical to know than others.

Overall: Not worth the money.
