Editorial Reviews

Review

Incredible high adventure. The pace is frenetic and the story lends plausibility to a number of evolution theories. -- Bob Spears, Heartland Reviews, January 2006

Life and death situations, narrow escapes, mysterious characters abound. This is a great adventure story. -- Andrew Grgurich, Marquette Mining Journal, January 29, 2006

Skillfully immerses the reader in the strange and murky worlds of human origins, archaeological secrecy, and ancient cultures. -- Nick Redfern, author of Body Snatchers in the Desert

Product Description

Lord of the Dead is Book Two in the Human Origins Series of novels. Once again, this imaginative series blends author Shiel’s in-depth knowledge of archaeology, anthropology and alternative history into an entertaining and fast-paced tale of mystery, murder and mayhem. Although fiction, Lord of the Dead leads the reader through the labyrinths of both currently accepted and still evolving theories of evolution and deftly combines what are usually considered disparate topics (UFOs, Bigfoot and human origins) into an engrossing and educational adventure.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mysteries Magazine review, October 28, 2007
In this novel by Lisa Shiel, Katy and Rick are a normal American couple who enjoy outdoor sports, decoding ancient languages, and own a pet Bigfoot. They are also being stalked by extraterrestrial "Planners" (an advanced branch of humanity who live at the bottom of the sea) because they discovered that the human species is a billion years old and that Bigfoot is the real descendant of early man. Now Katy and Rick have to find the ancient Egyptian artifacts that the Planners so desperately want, or else Rick's father, who is being held hostage, will be killed.

Will they succeed in their task or will the world be destroyed? Does anyone care? Not likely, considering the two-dimensional characters, improbable situations, and scenarios seemingly drawn from B-grade movies and conventional UFO mythology. In fact, Shiel's world is so rooted in mundane Americana that UFOs attacking bridges seem like highway traffic jams; the Bigfoot that roams the hills behind the house seems like a grouchy Malamute and exotic locales such as Egypt feel like they were based on a mini-golf course. In the end, there is little to be recommended about this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exploration of ancient cultures , February 28, 2006
Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (2/06)

"Lord of the Dead" is truly a great adventure. It is a second book in the Human Origins Series. The author, Lisa A Shiel ties in her personal interest and research in archaeology and Bigfoot in this fictional story. She presents an alternative idea about the origins of mankind.

The two main characters of the story are Katy and Rick. This couple encounters "The Planners" who are a technologically advanced race. They discover Bigfoot's role in the origins of humans. Without giving away the secret, I will just say that it isn't what you would expect. Humans are not related to these beings or even the hominids of whom we are traditionally believed to have evolved. In their efforts to hide the secrets of the origins of man, the Planners erased their own history. A particularly evil Planner coerces Katy and Rick to seek out The Book of Thoth so that he can perform a ceremony that will give him control over the human race. During their search for this book, they explore the truth about human origins.

This adventure spans events that have taken place over 1,000's of years. The story takes you from Michigan to Egypt. Shiel uses her extensive knowledge of archaeology, anthropology, and Bigfoot to write a very rich story. I really enjoyed the exploration of the ancient cultures and their traditions. I would highly recommend this book to readers that have an open mind about the origin of man and who enjoy fast paced stories that involve alternative histories about ancient cultures. It would also make a great movie.
