5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet projects, April 14, 2008
If you love shabby chic, vintage, flea-market inspired crafts, this book is for you! Many of the projects use materials that any scrapbook aficionado already has around the house - pretty papers, glitter, chipboard, rub-ons and trims. Ten designers are represented, so there's a good mix of styles in memory craft and home decor. I wouldn't make every item in the book, but at least a dozen of the over 40 projects inspired me to go straight to my studio - and to heck with the laundry!

This book was a little out of date by the time I got it. It has a nice introduction.

3.0 out of 5 stars Way, way, way overpriced - more like 2.5 stars, May 29, 2008
By Ellie Z "Ellie" (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews

More craft magazine than book, this 54 page publication contains photos of a variety of basic craft projects ranging from shadowboxes to altered books, to scrapbook pages that have been framed and matted. The problem with this publication is that despite showcasing 10+ artists, covering the gamut of crafty vintage ephemera, and featuring 40+ projects, there was not even 1 original idea or project that I haven't already seen done a hundred times before. Not one!

There's a lot of the usual suspects here... beautifully photographed projects composed of $50 or more of specialty scrapbooking papers and supplies, cut-out Xerox copies of pictures of Victorian folk with crowns and angel wings glued to them, and a hefty sprinkling of German glass glitter. Upon closer inspection of the photographs, you realize that if you were to remove the numerous props surrounding the projects themselves you're not left with much that is inspiring. Even if you were to come across a project you were interested in recreating, the instructions for the projects are printed in 10pt font and are about as helpful as the instructions that come with the assemble-it-yourself Danish furniture.

Bottom line: overpriced, uninspired, glorified scrapbooking magazine.
