5.0 out of 5 stars No bones about it! this is a great book, March 12, 2006
Dr. Siegrist has done an excellent job of takiing "doctorese" and putting it into understandable and educational terms. Great advice on dealing with arthritis-from defining medical terms to discussing over the counter remedies to surgerical options. Well done. NNS

5.0 out of 5 stars Know Bones About It!, February 19, 2006
Easily readable, this book is a wealth of information about bone health and joint maintenance. The author is an orthopedic surgeon and her dedication to helping patients manage their arthitis pain shows clearly in this book.

Dr Siegrist presents material that every individual who has experienced pain in a joint or bone can read thereby assessing their own need to take measures to improve their bone health.

Chapters on taking control of arthritis pain, for example, explain what is normal and why arthritis hurts. Descriptions of the many types of pain relievers are informative and the author's descriptions make medical facts easy to remember. Drawings, charts and photographs provide clear visuals of the concepts discussed thoughout the book.

Surgical alternatives are described in the book's appendix and provide information to help the reader to have a productive discussion with their othopedic surgeon or other health care provider.

I enjoyed the occasional humor which laces the book. The text is informative, not preachy. Dr Siegrist is on the reader's side. By the way, the book's illustrations by Christian Slade enhance both the book's readablity and understanding. Buy this book for yourself and then for your friends with achy joints. If you are a baby boomer get a jump on joint pain with "Know Your Bones."

5.0 out of 5 stars It Really "Makes Sense"!, February 28, 2006
By G. Dezzutto (Omaha, NE) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dr. Siegrist's unique ability to convey the complexity of this condition in a "readable" manner is wonderful. The illustrations allow the reader to easily identify specifics, and track very well to the text. A very handy reference guide for individuals with arthritis, and those trying to provide information to loved ones.
