Product Description

Murder,Forbidden Love and Indian Massacre all play a role in We the People, Pamela Ackerson's second novel of her time-travel trilogy. The first novel, Home of the Braves, tells the story of Karen Anderson, a modern-day surgeon, who discovers that the antique bed she purchased has the power to transport her into the past where she finds herself in the midst of the Indian Wars ... falling in love with the Indian warrior, Standing Deer. Now it's time for her son, Matthew (Gentle Raccoon), to discover what destiny the bed has in store for him. Matthew also finds love in the arms of the beautiful, young Devry, a love forbidden by his mother. In the meantime, someone is murdering the men of the local men's club ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pulled Along History's Timeline, September 8, 2006
Pulled Along History's Timeline
By Romance Junkies Reviewer: Rhea Palmer

A magical time-machine bed makes its way into the Anderson household forever changing their lives. They take turns traveling back in time to learn where their true destiny lies. In the second book of Pamela Ackerson's trilogy, it is Matthew's turn to learn where his place is in life. Transported back to South Dakota in the year 1890, Matthew is witness to the Native American Lakota tribe's battles with the U.S. Government. Being half Lakota himself, Matthew is torn between loyalty to his tribe and loyalty to his country. The conflict escalates into open hostility when Sitting Bull endorses the Ghost Dance - a religious movement seen as a threat to the U.S. military. Sitting Bull's arrest takes a dark turn when he is shot and killed and the hatred culminates in the Massacre of Wounded Knee.

As Matthew is pulled along history's timeline, he is frustrated at the mistakes made and the ignorance of both sides to how true co-existence can be accomplished. When Matthew meets Devry, this child-woman steals his heart and complicates his life in ways she cannot understand. How can Matthew find his destiny when Devry has no idea how different his world is from hers? In the midst of bloody confrontations and his own inner turmoil, can he keep his head and not alter history?

Pamela Ackerson's love for Native Americans shows through her writing. The characters she has created have a high regard for them and their beliefs. I enjoyed reading and learning about a culture I don't normally come into contact with. You will definitely need to start at the beginning of this story with her first book, Home of the Braves.

If the first book wasn't enough to keep you reading, the second is just as wonderful. I couldn't put it down, it draws you into the book and you want more. So is this going to be a trilogy? I sure hope so!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Go back in time for a real adventure!, May 28, 2006
Genre: Fiction/ Sci Fi

Title: We the People

Author: Pamela Ackerson

The story begins as Karen Black Elk and her son Matthew travel back in time to 19th century South Dakota. Being in possession of an antique bed that allows time travel, the two often move between the past and the present. Known as Spirit of the Mountain and Gentle Raccoon they work with the Lakota people to attempt to secure the future of all Native Americans but the times are difficult and tensions run deep. Matthew meets and becomes infatuated with Devry but his mother is not confident that the relationship can work. How can people from different times relate? Will her age be a barrier to their happiness? Could Devry live in Matthew's world?
Many challenges await the pair who have sworn not to change history. Indian uprisings, massacres by the whites and deep prejudice swirl together in an interesting tale. The town that Karen and Matthew visit has a mystery of its own; someone is killing the men of the Gentlemen's Club. Lots of action, romance and suspense as readers travel back in time with our heroine and her son.
We the People is the second book in the time-travel trilogy. My only criticism is that this book does not give enough of a description of the actual time travel. Not having read book one, Home of the Braves, the reader is confused when the protagonist goes instantly from present day to past. I found this to be rather disjointed and therefore this book does not stand alone. Readers must read the books in the trilogy in order to fully understand not only the time travel but also to get a better understanding and feel for the characters and their relationships.
Pamela Ackerson lives in Central Florida and is working on the third book in the trilogy, Out of Many....One.
