5.0 out of 5 stars Great Building Information, October 10, 2007
This book is designed to allow someone to know how to go about building a dock. It is outlined by sections and goes into the various details of many of the types of constructions and parts of the various docks. What to look for and how to compare the differences. It is a must for those looking at learning and building there own.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Dock Guide For Waterfront Homeowners, June 11, 2008
Author Dale Gilbert knows what he's talking about. His book is a very informative, yet easy-to-digest guide for people who never would have thought that building a dock could be so darn complicated. And I recommend that anyone in the business carry a copy, too, because this will become the authoritative guide!

Even after learning that every regulatory authority will meddle in your decision, design, and pocketbook, Dale shows how you can reduce the pain from this often silly and too-often counterproductive governmental oversight -- and actually build something that's an environmental plus. The author is BIG on sustainable development and green construction.

As for whether or not my opinion matters, I'm Executive Director of Florida Marine Contractors Association, the professional trade association for the marine construction industry. Our members' livelihoods depend on a clean marine environment. This book shows how you can help. A strong recommendation!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, October 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was looking for real basic information like how deep should I drive the pilings into the water.

If you are looking for a do-it-yourself manual, this is not it. Also be careful as this is a CD and not a book like one review had you believe.
