Product Description
In Army Nurse, Cherry has made the difficult decision facing all her classmates - should she enlist in the military or practice nursing on the homefront? She's graduated from Spencer and earned the right to put "RN" after her name, and as an Army nurse, she is now "Lieutenant Ames." The Army nurses are also soldiers, and endure a grueling basic training under the harsh Sergeant Deake (whom Cherry nicknames "Lovey," much to his chagrin). No one knows where the Spencer unit will be deployed until they are shipped off without warning - to Panama City. Who is the mysterious old Indian whom Cherry and her corpsman Bunce find collapsed in an abandoned house? He is obviously very ill, but with what? Can Dr. Joe's newly developed serum help?

From the Publisher
Springer Publishing Company is proud to present the re-release of the Cherry Ames nursing series! The books are just as you remember them, retaining the same look, feel, and sense of adventure and patriotism as when they were first published. With fully illustrated color covers and a soft-finished hardcover format just like the originals, these books will transport you back to the days when you were reading about this spunky young nurse. They will also make delightful reading for a new generation of younger readers, transporting them back to a more innocent time when an independent young woman, devoted to helping people--yet also adventuresome, resourceful, and courageous--balanced helping others with getting involved in breathtaking mystery and adventure.

With a heart of pure gold and a true yearning to make a difference in the world, eighteen-year-old Cherry Ames leaves her hometown and enters nursing school, embarking on a lifetime of adventures. Follow Cherry through the entire 20-volume series as she grows from a student nurse to a fully qualified RN, all the while making friends, pushing the limits of authority, leading her nursing colleagues, and sleuthing and solving mysteries. Smart, courageous, mischievous, quick-witted, and above all, devoted to nursing, Cherry Ames meets adventure head-on wherever she goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A snapshot of nursing history, June 20, 2000
The Cherry Ames books give a glimpse into the history of nursing. Cherry is attractive, smart, savvy, organized and detailed - everything a nurse should seem to be!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cherry Ames: Army Nurse, January 20, 2003
By Mary Miner "mbminer" (Boxford, MA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I give this 4 stars taking into consideration when it was written. By that I mean that it is perhaps a snapshot of "nursing" from the time and all the Cherry Ames books should be taken for what they are, a romp, through the eyes of Miss Ames, RN. Don't take them too seriously, just enjoy the ride. Some of the situations seem contrived and silly by current standards, but its a quick light entertaining read and there's nothing else like them that I'm aware of - a young, bright, independent female character moving from one nursing adventure to another enjoying her career and learning about life as she goes. No gratuitous sex or violence. - Fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best "Cherry's"..., July 2, 2001
By "peachybelle" (Lee, MA USA) - See all my reviews
I started to read Cherry Ames when I bought one from a used bookstore a couple of years ago. I bought Cherry Ames, Army Nurse because of its cover(I know, I know). She looked very excited and happy there, so I had to join her. It was a great continuation of the first two books in the series, and gave a real look of how Army nurses trained back then. From her first time at the base, to training, to a special ending, I wouldn't change a thing about the book. It was good all around.
