In this effective revenge thriller, multimillionaire Jake Burke, a hedge-fund manager, becomes the latest vengeful survivor of Islamic terror when a suicide bombing in New York's FAO Schwartz claims his wife and daughter. After improbably getting access to sensitive NYPD investigative files, Burke, assisted by his de rigeur efficient, sexy and devoted young assistant, Miranda, tracks down the terrorist's accomplice in Egypt and kills him, inadvertently derailing the official investigation into the bomber's paymasters. Burke is soon recruited by a shadowy international brotherhood of ex-spies convinced that Iran is on the verge of waging terror with nuclear arms, and becomes their partner and a prime source of funds. Burke and Miranda's covert missions and narrow escapes are thrilling, if implausible, and Kahane often resorts to didactic language in an effort to persuade the reader of the implications of a nuclear Iran, though in the current political climate few readers could be unaware of the stakes. Still, for genre fans with a hefty suspension of disbelief, Kahane's debut provides plenty of hot-button action.

Fire with Fire hits hard on today's issues. Jake Burke is out for revenge after his wife and daughter are killed in a terrorist attack. This book really makes you wonder what exactly you would do in the same situation. Jake must find ways to get to the very core of the terrorists who took away his family. But can he do it without stooping to their level?

Fire With Fire is an incredible, intense read that really made me examine the world that we live in today. It is definitely one of the best books I have read in a long time. I finished it in a few days, and I am not someone who has time to read! I can already see this book turning into a huge blockbuster one day.

From the harrowing prologue to the intense last page, Allan Kahane treats his readers to a top-notch thrillride in "Fire with Fire." There's not a dull moment as Jake Burke embarks on a quest to avenge the deaths of his wife and young daughter in a brutal terrorist attack, and he has no qualms about eye-for-an-eye tactics.

Many books deliver the same taut action that Kahane expertly constructs here, but it is the rare author that interweaves realism and authentic characterization into the mix. The biggest asset is the hero himself: haunted by the scenes of his family's slaying, firm in his resolve for justice, but unsure of what the best means for this justice are, Jack Burke must make decisions that are more than relevant to any concerned American alive today.

All in all, this was one of the most accomplished and memorable thrillers I've read in quite a while. Relentlessly exciting and topically powerful, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good read.

Well-written and smart, Fire with Fire is a gutsy and intense thriller that profoundly resonates in our world's current political state. By stripping away distracting political banter, Fire with Fire does a better job than most "news" sources at revealing the dirty inner workings of international terrorists.
There's something incredibly cathartic in watching courageous Jake fight to avenge his wife and daughter, taking the fight on terror straight to the terrorists themselves. Kahane creates a perfect blend of the political and the personal, a combo that kept me engaged intellectually as well as emotionally.
