Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Kanye West teams up with co-author J. Sakiya Sandifer to make his literary debut with Thank You And You're Welcome, an entertaining volume of 'Kanye-isms'--the creative, humorous, and insightful philosophies and anecdotes used in creating his path to success. It captures the same wit, playful irony, and piercing insight found abundant in his lyrics.

In Thank You And You're Welcome, Kanye delivers his personal message uncensored, without any five-second delay or media distortion.

'My book is a guide to creating then celebrating your moment!' says Kanye.

1.0 out of 5 stars Like a child discovering Legos, May 26, 2009
By Sammy C "Sam" (Boulder, CO) - See all my reviews
Kanye West seems mildly amused that these things called "words" can actually be written down and combined into interesting groups called "phrases" or sometimes even "sentences."

It would be adorable if he were five years old. But coming from this wealthy, swaggering, man-child, it's a depressing reminder that his hip-hop culture devalues education and literacy. Mr. West uses white space as a stand-in for gravitas; one page declares "Get used to being used." I doubt the youngest of his fans will find that worth pondering for more than a second.

That he needed a ghost writer to complete what amounts to a pithy pamphlet is appalling.

1.0 out of 5 stars Genius can be subtle, May 27, 2009
By VenomPen "Venompen" (Hollywood, USA) - See all my reviews
The fact is, sometimes genius is hidden very deep inside the words of a great tome. In this case, the genius is hidden so well, it may never be found. "Olly olly oxen free" we all may yell, but alas no genius is to be found. The genius is subtle as the emergence of a wart. The genius of Mr. West's written words can barely be surpassed by the genius of his music.
I did not purchase this book, but was given a copy by a well known larcenist. I will keep it next to my copy of Milton's L'Allegro in hopes that the depth of both books help to level my coffee table.

1.0 out of 5 stars From a self proclaimed wordsmith?, May 28, 2009
A friend bought this book, I borrowed it for a few hours and simply couldn't bring myself to finish it.

I would have expected a wordsmith to actually use words in a cleaver way to convey a significant message. His inability to "smith words" appears to be overshadowed only by his own arrogance.

Beyond not being able to recommend this book, frankly I fear the potential impact it could have on an already shallow and self serving culture of greed and self centeredness.

I hope that the readers of this book are able to see it for what it is, infantile rambling philosophy of a man who should have left philosophy to people who actually have unique and clever ideas.

If you would like an idea of the quality of this work please check out Kanye's blog posts. These posts are almost entirely product placement with the occasional all caps paragraph long run on sentence in which he strokes his own ego.
