THE ART OF WAR ON TERROR, September 7, 2007
With the publication of Dr.Moorthy Muthuswamy's, "The Art Of War On Terror", the growing literature in this genre has achieved a new level of sophistication. The author,a physicist by training and profession has applied the rigor of scientific methodology to the task of understanding a contemporary crisis which by an emerging consensus could be considered as serious a threat to humanity as global warming. This new approach is welcome since the application of the scientific paradigm to problem solving has yeilded reliable results universally.
The carefully reasoned arguments backed by impressive data, much of which will prove startlingly revelatory to the reader, eventuate in compelling conclusions. The new level of insight into the jihadic mentality afforded by this analysis provides the reader with a level of penetrating understanding of a topic, which though the subject of much analysis and debate, has hitherto proved refractory to understanding.
Some significant breakthroughs in the understanding of Political Islam and the agenda of the Jihadists are made in the course of Dr.Muthuswamy's exposition.Among these are:
1) Unraveling the original doctrine of jihad traceable to the scriptural roots of Koran, Hadith and Sira, the Islamic trilogy, considered by devout Muslim believers to contain all useful and necessary knowledge. It becomes patently obvious from the data and Muthuwamy's persusive logic that the current call to jihad is not merely a reaction to contemporary or recent historical oppression of Muslim nations or minorities, an attempt to redress grievances.Rather, the jihadic drive is an original and fundamental tenet of Islam, enjoined by scripural injunctions to wage "righteous war" on the unbelievers(i.e.all non-Muslims) for the sake of conversion ostensibly, but encouraging, even mandating in this process the brutalization, dispossession, enslavement, exploitation and massacre of any who dare to resist the Muslim onslaught. That this injunction to jihad, the command of Allah(God)is obligatory for all the Muslim faithful is a theme echoing through Islamic literature and sermons since its inception to the present day.The contention of apologists for Muslim violence and extremism that it is the blight on Islam imposed by a relatively few extremists is thereby refuted.Fundamentally, Islam is demonstrated to be not a "religion of peace" as many of its ideologues and apologists claim, but the converse.
2) Identifying the continuing pattern of Jihad:In the secod chapter , "The Many Faces Of Jihad", the author offers ample evidence for the continuing pattern of jihad driven by the Islamic scrptural injunction to spread Islam by fire and sword. From the Middle East to India and Persia, to medieval Europe, the sword of Islam obliterated cultures as diverse as the Christian communities in North Africa, the Zoroastrian religion of Iran, the Buddhists of India and Central Asia and the remnants of Pharonic culture in Egypt and generally threatened Christendom with annihilation.Hoewever, it is in the case of India,as Muthuswamy points out, that the pattern of jihad is most clearly discernible. The history of the Muslim conquests of India beginning in the late 8th century C.E. and culminating in the establishment of the Mughal empire is arguably the most egregious example of jihadic imperialism ever.As Dr. Muthuswamy demonstrates by data and argument, the jihad on India continues unabated in places like Kashmir under the sponsorship of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and much of the Muslim world, despite the partition of India upon independence from Great Britain and the division into the nation states of India and Pakistan along religous lines.
3) The compelling argument is made that the West, now faced with the full fury of Islamic jihadism, embrace India as the main ally on The War On Terror. This is indicated because India has not merely been the greatest victim of jihadism and continues to be, but additionally India has an invaluable fund of experience with combatting Islamic extremism and violence and has the most comprehensive understanding of the jihadi mentality, strategies, tactics and designs. This juncture of history provides an historic opportunity for cooperation in a crisis engulfing both India and the West and the world at large.Even out of sheer self-interest, the West would be well-served to enlist India as its main ally in this battle to save world civilisation. If the West fails to take this course or hesitates too long in doing so, the cause may be lost.
4) Europe has now become the main jihadi-target in the West because there the jihadis calculate that they have large unassimilated Muslim populations, easily susceptible to the jihadic war cry. These elements, largely self-isolated by their reluctance to embrace modernity or secular education are becoming increasingly ingrown and radicalised by the fire-brand imams and other Muslim ideologues who openly and unabashedly preach hatred for and rejection of Western civilisation and its values. They go further and even threaten these societies with the prospect of creating Muslim mini-states within these nations with the express purpose of consolditating power and building up the Muslim population to the critical mass capable of overwhelming the majority populations and eventually taking power, whence the medieval sharia-code of Islamic justice and jurisprudence will be imposed on the societies. This prospect must not be dismissed as ridiculous and preposterous as it may appear. This is a pattern attested historically and obvious in India and South Asia currently. The governments and citizenry of the targeted European countries such as great Britain, France, Germany and Spain are finally waking up to the trojan horse in their midst, but they will be more greatly imperilled if they underestimate the sophistication and resolve involved in the jihadi design. Here again, the experience and example of India is instructive if the leaders of Europe properly appreciate it and embrace India as an ally in the global anti-jihadic war.
5) Those readers who are anxious to know what counter-measures Dr.Muthuswamy proposes will be most interested in the last chapter entitled "Policy Response".There, the author building upon the conclusions of the two previous chapters proceeds to recommend policy response measures he deems indicated by the compelling conclusions of the two previous chapters.A basic guiding principle behind the recommendations is that drastic circumstances demand drastic responses, but there is no hint of any crude reactionism in these recommendations.Rather they are calculated in a scientific spirit as necesary remedial mesures in the context of the crisis involved.
With respect to the Axis of Jihad, consisting in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Iran, no accomodation should be given. That these regimes continue to sponsor, finance, and harbor the perpetrators of egregious acts of violence against innocent people world-wide would be sufficient reason to ostracize and sanction them. However, despite the typical post 9/11 rhetoric, especially by President Bush that not merely the perpetrators but the regimes that sponsor them would be targeted, the main sponsors such as Saudi Arabia which is the international financier of jihad and the ideological fountainhead of extremist Islam and Pakistan which harbors, trains and equips the jihadis targeting both India and the West, continue to recieve favourable treatment and rewards from the West, especially the U.S., the victim of 9/11.Saudi Arabia continues to be courted and cuddled because of its oil and the cozy corporate deals it has with multi-national Western oil companies. It is deemed the greatest U.S. ally in the Middle East while its elite continues to fund terrorism and propagate the extremist Wahabi ideology world-wide.It is no accident that so many of the hijickers were Saudis as well as the master-mind himself Bin Laden. The West nevertheless continues its misguided policy of enriching and arming this epicenter of jihad. With respect to Pakistan, its involvement with jihadism is so transparent and its complicity with terrorism against India and the West so well-attested that the policy of arming its jihadi infested military and sponsor of the Taleban, and massively subsidising its economy, is merely a fattening of the jihadic monster which bides its time and awaits its opportunity to pounce upon its benefactor.
Dr. Muthuswamy is unequivocal in his insistence that the U.S. and other Western nations ostracize and isolate Saudi Arabia and impose sanctions restricting travel and other contacts. If the West is bold enough to turn away from purchasing Saudi oil, the only source of its wealth would dry up and its ability to finance world-wide jihad and fundamentalist propaganda would be severely curtailed. With respect to Pakistan, no support should be provided to its military dictatorship and further pressure applied to it to divest itself from militant and jihadi links. This would also include verifiable dismantling of its jihadi training camps and curtailment of jihadi indoctrination in the jihadi-academies known as Madrasas. Such measures must be applied to these regimes for the curtailment of their anti-humanitarian and hostile activities.More generally, Muthuswamy recommends a two-fold strategy of pre-emption: military and ideological. The military response would have to be disproportionate and overwhelming to demonstrate the resolve and will of the international community to put an end to the jihadi menace. This would be analogous to the reaction to an alien invasion envisioned in science fiction. The measures which involve ideological pre-emption are more intellectual and subtle, but could nevertheless prove just as effective. These could include a broad...

Jihad... Wow, a new world war......, August 10, 2007
Thanks to Dr. Muthuswamy's insight and understanding of radical Islam, I finally understand the magnitude of what the free world is up against. This book is insightful & articulate with real world examples of how the "western world" must face up to the real underpinnings and dangers of radical Islam.
There is nothing conventional about this new war and his book helps explain why.
