Product Description

Award-winning humorist Diana Estill sets loose her alter ego Deedee Divine in this hilarious life survival guide. In her native Texas tongue, she explains why "family that doesn't kill you makes you stronger," women won't read maps, and men should never use the "B-word": budget. If you've ever wondered what keeps couples together (they accept flatulence as a sign of relationship comfort), where to find the path to success (follow the "7 habits of highly self-absorbed people"), or what regifting has to do with America's GNP ("Gross Needless Products"), Deedee has these answers and more. In Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life, Estill, author of Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road, has once again turned life's absurdities and annoyances into side-splitting laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly entertaining reading, February 6, 2009
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
"Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life" belongs in the collection of any library strong in humor essays. Outrageous advice on why women won't read maps, health and beauty pursuits, food and fitness, and more make for a series of hilarious comments on the human condition in a zany, fun read perfect for general lending libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skewed....unbalanced?... a breath of fresh air!, November 13, 2008
Reviewed by Danelle Drake for Reader Views (11/08)

On a cold, yucky, rainy afternoon I picked up "Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life" and knew from Susan Reinhardt's lush kudos on the back cover that I would not do a single thing for the rest of the day. Susan Reinhardt is from my "neck of the woods" and is just bust-a-gut funny. She is the reason I read the local newspaper. Sure, it makes me look smart and all carrying the paper into work each morning but I am only really interested in the funny stuff. And funny stuff is surely what I found! I was on my second glass of wine when I came to this bit of scientific information Deedee found out: "I learned that limited consumption of red wine can be good for cardiovascular health. Experts advise women to restrict their wine intake to one drink and men to two per day. Oddly, there's no mention of the permissible number of drinks per night." Nobody can tell me that I am not heart healthy.

Diving right into FAMILY THAT DOESN'T KILL YOU WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER reminds us that we all have those members of the family that don't see things the way we do. You aren't the only person that needed to be taught how to use a child restraint seat by, well, a child. FOOD & FITNESS (LOST IN TASTE) was just the thing to get me back on the wagon with other gals. Tomorrow, I promise, I will again exercise. Can't today, it's raining. Besides, I needed to get to the grocery and pick up some of that enhanced water Deedee recommended: Minute Laid (Water with an aphrodisiac). DeeDee's insight on ROMANCE & OTHER MYTHS sure came in handy with the water and all. HOME & GARDEN 9-1-1 rolls you right thru appliance replacement and lawn care. She lets you know it is alright if you don't hold housework in high regard, life is too short to make such things so darn important. HEALTH, BEAUTY & OTHER PRICEY PURSUITS had me rolling in the floor as I was taking in the "highly technical" DNA information. It's scary to think about where some people came from and she mentioned that no one's DNA had not been traced back to the snake of Adam & Eve time. But to her knowledge, her ex-husband has yet to be tested. As I was coming to a close with KEEPING THE HOLIDAYS "LITE" I was reminded that we do need to de-stress during that hectic holiday time of year. How better to de-stress than to a read top notch information packed, roll in the floor, and share with your girls book such as "DeeDee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life." Of all the important information I gleaned from this new guide of mine is this all-important helpful holiday tip: "Pretend you're loaded - or just get that way."

Also, when preparing for the upcoming holiday season Deedee wants you to remember this: "Take it from me; the best way to make a pumpkin pie is to let your grocer bake it." REAL LIFE chick's that do not take themselves too seriously is my genre of choice. Deedee Divine is my new best friend. She let's her readers know: "Laughter is what's gotten her through the hard patches, plummeting times, and spiraling bills. That's why she feels it's important to help others find the fun in their frustrations, to locate the levity that exists everywhere from the roadways to the kitchens." Life is too short to take everything so seriously, and the girls of "Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life" -- Sissy LeBlanc, Belle Cantrell, Belle Weather, and Deedee Divine give us the guide we need to make them proud!

5.0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY SKEWED FUN, September 23, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Totally Skewed is a wonderful relaxing read with many family stories closely resembling those we all experience. Diana's wit and humorous attitude toward what could have been stressful events and worries will make you laugh out loud, and enlighten your outlook for future situations in your own life. This book is delightful in that you can leave it on your coffee table for others to read a chapter or two or you can pick it up anytime to add a little chuckle to your day. I certainly recommend Totally Skewed Guide to Life.
