Product Description
From a patient who is also a dietitian...

Everything you need to know about nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease including healing foods, recipes, supplements and more.

At the age of nineteen, author Tracie Dalessandro was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and eventually Crohn's disease. After years of trying to heal, Dalessandro realized the power of using diet in conjunction with traditional medicine to control her inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), rather than allowing it to control her. Nutrition became the link between feeling sick and feeling well.

What to Eat with IBD: A Comprehensive Nutrition and Recipe Guide for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis is an invaluable resource containing the latest nutrition and diet information for those suffering from IBD. Dalessandro, a registered dietitian, shares her personal experience and expertise in this comprehensive guide, including tips on the following:

* Foods that heal and foods that hurt
* More than fifty nutrient rich, gut-friendly recipes
* Menu planning, including healthy meals and snacks
* What to eat when traveling and dining out
* Critical vitamin and mineral deficiencies and how to correct them

Practical and easy to follow, What to Eat with IBD, will help you feel better, reduce your symptoms, and gain control over your illness.

About the Author
Tracie Rendino Dalessandro is a registered dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and has her Master of Science degree in Nutrition from New York Medical College. She has been in private clinical practice for over ten years and specializes in nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book reviewed by a dietitian and mother of a child with Crohn's disease, March 8, 2007
This book is an invaluable resource to those affected by IBD. The author is a registered dietitian with a Master's degree in nutrition who has had IBD since the age of nineteen. (I also have a Master's degree in nutrition and found all of her nutrition information to be accurate.) The first part of the book contains essential information as to how to achieve a nutritionally adequate diet despite the problems associated with IBD. The reader will learn which foods can cause inflammation and bowel irritation, which foods can nourish and heal the bowel, how to avoid food-borne illness, which nutrient supplements are necessary, and what forms of these recommended supplements are best absorbed.
The second part of the book contains over 50 kitchen-tested nutrient rich recipes that the entire family can enjoy. Recipes for tasty shakes are also included that can be used as meal-replacements when appetite is poor.
As a parent of a child with Crohn's disease, I continually keep abreast of new materials on IBD. Unfortunately, I have found some deleterious dietary misinformation about IBD on the market.
In contrast, I was so impressed with "What to Eat with IBD" that I contacted the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) to tell them how helpful I think this book would be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes!!, February 23, 2007
My husband was just diagnosed with Crohn's. Well, he loves to cook and thought he would have to eat boring food. The recipes in this book ROCK! We are both happy campers. We're both eating healthier and the food is awesome! I recommend this book to anyone and especially those that have special diets. Oh yeah, and there was a lot a good information about IBD in the book. (You can tell which part thrilled me the most!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for IBD patients and families, November 8, 2007
I just received this book yesterday, it's a great resource. As a nutritionist, I've done a great deal of research on what my son can eat since he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis three years ago. This book is right-on with my own research and something I will be sending to college with him next year, where he will have to cook his own meals. I am ordering another copy for my mother who "never knows what I can feed him"--now she'll have a place to start.
