From AudioFile
If youve never heard of a flying tank or an aircraft carrier made of ice, Zack Parsonss collection of the worst weapons of WWII will fill you with fascinating factoids. Although serious in intent, the light writing, like the title, keeps a tongue-in-cheek treatment throughout. Narrator Patrick Lawlor takes the authors cue and uses every opportunity to entertain. He adopts comedic Russian and German accents, his voices shout in panic during combat scenes, and his Hitler in a temper tantrum could win an Oscar. For the informative sections, he stays animated and brisk, sometimes sounding like hes just finished 12 cups of coffee. Lawlor never blurs his articulation and skillfully manages the foreign, technical, and military vocabulary. J.A.H. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
