Product Description

"Danielle, Where Are You?" is an adoption story written for young children ages three to eight years old. It is a true story told in fairy tale form, with colorful, imaginative illustrations and lively text. Enjoy visiting many foreign lands while searching for Danielle. This book was specially written to help explain adoption to young children.

About the Author

Cindy Roberts lives in Southern California with her husband and six kids. Three of her kids were adopted internationally as older children. This is when Cindy's writing career came alive. As a way to explain adoption to her children, she created their own adoption story as fairy tales in a picture book. Then, on the kids' special "Happy Adoption Day" at school, she would share these stories in the kids' classrooms. Other books the author has written are "Chinese New Year For Kids", an educational arts and crafts book, and "Dear Sam & Dani: An Adoption Journal." Cindy enjoys lecturing at adoption lectures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable for young children., June 1, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the personal story of the author's daughter, Danielle, from Vietnam. It is a colorfully illustrated story, with a happy tone, for younger children. When the Roberts' planned adoption from China fell through, they looked around the world for their little girl. She isn't in Africa, she isn't in Russia, she isn't in Peru. But there are many children waiting in Vietnam. The Roberts adopt two boys from Vietnam and continue to wait. Finally they bring Danielle home. The story ends with a picture of the happy Roberts family, two parents, three birth children and three children adopted from Vietnam, and the celebration of Danielle's adoption.

Young children will enjoy the bright and lively illustrations and simple upbeat text. It would also make a nice gift for waiting families. As they get older, children are likely to have additional questions about their adoption, waiting children and their life in Vietnam, to which parents can use their shared reading time together to answer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed and upset by throwaway remark, March 1, 2005
I ordered this book with high expectations and was disappointed by one very important line in the book "The family wasn't sad anymore, because they found lots of children to adopt in Vietnam!". How can you instill a sense of pride and self confidence in children if they feel that they were easily come by because of "lots of children to adopt" and what respect does that show for Vietnam and the Vietnamese people because not only are my children adopted from Vietnam, but we have Vietnamsese friends both here in Ireland and in Vietnam. I hope you print this review as I use amazon regularly and find it an excellent source of both adoption and general publications, but not this time. I wouldn't have ordered it if I had seen inside first. Thanks for reading this, Colette Gallagher, Dublin, Ireland

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite in Our House, February 28, 2004
By A Customer
My 5 year old who was adopted from Vietnam just LOVES this book, far more than any other children's adoption book that we have read together. We usually read this story several times in one sitting. He wants to personally meet Danielle, and go visit her at her house!! It is a beautiful book with great illustrations, and simple text. I highly recommend it.
