Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Humor is a great healer. After our deepest tragedies our best jokes usually arise. So many body repair processes are activated by humor. Rarely does a collection of stories illustrate this theme as much as this book does. Dr. McDowall describes the funny side of his practice with stories about his patients, their fears, pains, spouses, worries, anxieties as well as the lessons they learn from them. Chiropractors are often the last healers called upon to help after all else has failed. Such tension with patient communication at this stage of pain causes incredible frustration for both the doctor and the patient. It is this environment that creates the out bursts described in this book. If you have ever wondered what people say when they hear that first creak of their bones during treatment or the wonder of how their body responds and changes without painkillers then this book will surprise you. The cartoon sketches included add another dimension to the book that shows the author can laugh at himself. It is said that a profession comes of age when it develops a sense of humor. No other book takes you into the intimacy of a chiropractor's practice like this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very dull and not funny., March 21, 2008

I am very sorry to have to write this as I hate to slam another Chiropractor's work, but Wise Cracks and Funny Bones is just awful. I bought the book to put out in my waiting room but after reading it over I decided against it. The book is poorly written and unfunny. In fact, there is nothing funny at all in the book. Here is an example of what you will find. The following is an actual example taken from the book itself;

"A patient having difficulty with her co-ordination said, `Doctor, I have all this trouble. I just keep getting all mixed up between my arms and legs. What can I do?' "

That's it, no other back story or information is given, that's the entire entry. The entire book is just like this. Don't waste your money on this one. My apologies to Donald McDowall. I hate to slam your book, but I feel like it wasn't worth the money I paid for it.

A good laugh at patients comments in chiropractic clinics. A very enjoyable and light-hearted book to read for all chiropractic patients and chiropractors wanting a good chuckle...!
