Here are poems from everyday life: grave and humorous, satirical and whimsical, romantic and sympathetic, caring and colorful. We all have our dreams of "A Romantic Fantasy", of "Brushing Against the Famous", of "Country Living", "A Retired Life", "A Tide of Roses", "Winter Waves" and "Twilight Magic".

Every author has his or her favorites. Mine is "Bus Stop". That's why I placed it second in this book to the title poem. I think it's very amusing. It's true too. And even you must admit it's highly original. Who else has written a poem about a bus stop?

Over 100 poems jostle for your attention in this large-format, 155-page paperback. Some, such as "The Actor Deprived of His Voice", have even won awards. I like them all except "A Modest Love". That one I ruined by over-writing. I came across my original draft the other day. It was simple, direct, captivating. But I couldn't leave well enough alone. Now its sentiments are over-stated, over-polished, over-embellished. Let that be a lesson to you!

A few people have actually told me they liked the photographs best. Some have reproduced well. Others are just so-so. The one I most admire is the self-portrait on page 7 in which I look unusually handsome as I'm about to step through that Stage Door.
