Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Many books are designed to teach normal, ordinary men how to become extraordinary pastors. A Pastor’s Heart emphasizes the importance of extraordinary pastors to remain ordinary men and women. This collection of journal-style entries teaches us to love our leaders as much when they disappoint us with their humanity as we do when they dazzle us with their spirituality. If we expect our ministers to be more than human, we inevitably fall into the error of considering them less than human as well. Pastors suffer sorrow and enjoy life. They struggle with financial security and family dynamics. A Pastor’s Heart reveals the entire range of emotion any pastor, or person, endures. These pages should both deepen one’s respect for the divinity of our spiritual leaders and open one’s eyes to their humanity. Scripture references are provided with each entry to make A Pastor’s Heart an informative devotional as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Heart to Hearts, October 13, 2003
By Marcyle Taliaferro (Louisiana, USA) - See all my reviews
Pastor Eddie Thompson reveals his heart to show and remind that our Creator has given special and unique qualities to each of us-qualities granted for a specific purpose in His master plan. This is clearly a message applicable to everyone.

A Pastor's Heart is a well-written collection of poems and journal-style entries with a Scriptural reference for each. Some topics stir study and reflection, others bring smiles, and some are reminiscent of the times we forgo our trust and knowledge of the constancy of God's love to allow temporary circumstances to catapult us into confusion and despair. We're reminded of similarities and differences of individuals, and with the perspective of viewing from a different heart, I now see many things quite differently and with more understanding.

A significant statement from the introduction is "If I try to be Patrick Thompson, Cecil Janway, or Billy Graham, then I will never give the Kingdom of God the best Eddie Thompson I have to offer." Eddie Thompson's style and use of analogies strongly defines his love for the Lord and encourages realization, appreciation and utilization of the unique qualities God has so graciously granted to each of us. Thompson states, "When God calls us to some purpose, or some task, He provides us with the heart for that call.... The Creator fashioned individual hearts within individual creatures for individual purposes."

This is a book I'll read again and again, and highly recommend A Pastor's Heart as enlightening inspiration for everyone.

Marcyle Taliaferro
