5.0 out of 5 stars Superb story from an up-and-coming writer!, November 24, 2004

(REAL NAME)
Being a great fan of a good many police/detective stories, I was drawn to this book from just a quick read of the prologue. After only 20 or so pages, I was hooked and could not put the book down, finishing it in one sitting. Characters are beautifully detailed and the author does a wonderful job of giving you a "minds eye view" of what each person is thinking/doing. Subjects, events and locations are articulately detailed giving the reader a feeling of "I have been there before!", without ever visiting the books Houston location setting. I personally enjoyed the author's use of "police talk" and character antics which gave me an inside look into real police work. Having the background the author has, I would assume that actions and emotions each character went though and felt, as well as their speech and dialog, is very close to how "real" police life is.

Bottom line, Joe Bradley has given readers a close-up look at police work circa 1985, and how intriguing life was, and still is today. His ability to involve the reader by making his characters not only believable, but personal shows that we have only begun to see great works from the writer. The book was definitely a good read, and easy to follow. While the story is full of typical "hard-nose" police work, there is plenty of humor involved as well which helps keep readers attention and adds to the inability to put the book down before finishing it completely. All in all, a well rounded book and I, for one, am extremely eager to read the next installment!

A sure winner!
