Product Description

Is there an experience as profound, as indefinable, as cherished, as savoured as fresh love, that sweet love in youth? As if on cue, we are wrenched away from the frivolities of childhood and launched into a new awakening of soul and self. The mere touch of a gentle hand, the soft gaze of dewy bright eyes, the gait, the strength of voice, the flick of a lock of hair stirs within us urgent passions and yearnings that Nature had set aside for us, latent and dormant. But what recollection of youth can be held more dear than that first kiss of a first love? It is the treasure of our memorabilia. This is, for the most part, a love story that had its stirrings in a most unusual place in Canada, and which began with Warren's first kiss from his first love. This is a story for all those who have known love, real love! This is also a story of "memories," safeguarded and cherished. But then, there is much more ...

About the Author

Retired and living in the greater Toronto, Canada area, Warren keeps active juggling his time between such diversions as club-style table-tennis, sequence-ballroom dancing, bridge, serious writing and reading the "classics." In his heyday, he was a highly skilled commercial renovator and an award-winning professional photographer. A divorced father of two grown and married children, Dean and Tracy, Warren aspires to being a grandfather in the foreseeable future. His personal comments on Corky, Peggy and the Goldfinch: "... an extraordinary experience in my youth which just had to be penned to paper ... an 'ageless' story for all ages with no geographical or cultural boundaries!"

5.0 out of 5 stars My review of "Corky, Peggy and the Goldfinch", May 29, 2005
By Ervin E. Harmon (Tarpon Springs,Fl USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"Corky, Peggy and the Goldfinch" by Warren W. Evans, is a very interesting and adventurous true love story that had its stirrings some 60 years ago. The setting is in Canada and begins when Corky, at the age of twelve, moves with his family to a remote community named "Geco". Prior to Corky moving there, Geco had been a sprawling WWII plant located in rural Scarborough in the eastern outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. When England declared war on Germany, Canada and other Commonwealth countries immediately followed suit. The Canadian munitions plant - Geco - was quickly built and operated by an American-owned company named General Engineering Company, hence the name "Geco." A few years later, in the months following the end of the war, a portion of the 177 buildings of the original plant was hastily reconstructed into a post-war emergency housing complex. It is in this budding Community of Geco, in the summer of 1946, where Corky and Peggy first meet and where the story begins.

Regardless of one's proclivity toward romance, this is a thoroughly enjoyable book for all tastes - a story of that first kiss from a first love. Author Warren Evans vividly remembers (and with the help of old diaries) his own first kiss from his first love. Now, after a five-year writing effort, he is pleased to share with readers treasured memories of his long ago childhood days.

Warren W. Evans has a unique writing style and artfully spins a wonderful tale in "Corky, Peggy and the Goldfinch" - a truly outstanding book to read. But there is vastly more to this book than the on-the-surface tender and touching love story it is. Young and inquisitive Corky also shares his most serious concerns regarding the human destruction of war and what role, if any, "God" plays in all of this. I especially enjoyed these sections of the book. Besides Corky and Peggy, there are also several subordinate characters within the story which adds to the overall enjoyment for the reader.

A book for all-ages, I definitely highly recommend it to everyone. For information on the author and his book, visit: ( http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewwork.asp?id=6150 ).

Personally, I would like to see "Corky, Peggy and the Goldfinch" made into a movie. It would make a great flick!
