3 winter stories sure to warm you from the inside out!, January 14, 2008
ONE NAUGHTY WINTER NIGHT by Ruth D. Kerce
Kayla's parents died in a plane crash just before Christmas during her first year of college. It's been ten years since their deaths, and the Christmas season still tends to intensify her feelings of loss. She only put up Christmas decorations to please Kyle. He's due to come over to unclog her shower. She's threatened to cut her hair many times because of it constantly building up in the drain but Kyle loves her hair and would be very disappointed if she did.
This time when Kyle shows up at Kayla's house there's an added tension between them. They're still the best of friends, but there's a sexual desire between them which they've tried so hard to keep hidden from each other. She's finally decided to go after what she wants and intends to start with Kyle, only he surprises her with a curl-your-toes kiss under the mistletoe and admits that he's been wanting to kiss her forever. Could he really want her or is he just teasing and can her heart stand it if he isn't serious? Kyle panics when Kayla questions him on why he's making moves on her after all this time but finally puts him at each when she confesses that she loves him - as much more than a friend and wants to be very naughty with him. Kyle discovers her secret desire when he looks through her book collection that all contain a certain theme - bondage and submission.
Ruth D. Kerce kicks off the WINTER STUDS trilogy with ONE NAUGHTY WINTER NIGHT. I took great pleasure in losing myself in this storyline for a while. The characters are heartwarmingly down to earth, the plot is great fun, and the sex scenes gave me all sorts of body tingles! I especially love the overwhelming honest relationship between Kyle and Kayla. There was never any doubt in my mind that they belonged together but making the leap from friends to lovers is scary and they make the transition beautifully.
A DEVIL IN WINTER by Diana Hunter
Kevin can't fathom that Pam was possibly telling him the truth and they'd really just had pity sex. He's decided that she's perfect for him, despite the fact that he enjoys being dominant in the bedroom and enjoys rope play and Pam is a selfish lover, only caring about her own enjoyment. Days later, Kevin realizes that he's begun to resemble a stalker and that it's truly over with Pam but he doesn't want to end their relationship on a sour note. On a whim, he drives by her parents' home and sees her car in the driveway. He'd always been welcome there, so he's stunned when Pam answers the door and informs him that she never wants to see him again and slams it in his face. Seconds later he hears a scream from inside and without thought he heads around the side of the house to peek through a window. Unfortunately, Pam's younger sister Anna finds him there and assumes that he's stalking Pam. Anna threatens to call the police but Kevin can't allow that so he does the only thing he can think to do - kidnaps her. He only intends to talk her into calming down and keeping the police out of the equation. Neither of them expects to be so turned on by the experience.
Diana Hunter's A DEVIL IN WINTER is the second book in the WINTER STUDS series. This book is full of fun characters that readers will adore. Kevin is a hunky bad boy with a reputation amongst the ladies. He's so dejected over spending the holidays alone that it makes the reader want to find him and bring him home (maybe even keep him). I love that Pam used him for sex, somehow that just seems like poetic justice for a man who's used to everything falling right into place including the women in his life. I absolutely love Anna. She's lived in her beautiful sister's shadow her whole life and isn't afraid to use a little blackmail to her advantage where Kevin's concerned.
WINTER'S ROSE by Ruby Storm
Kody is determined to reestablish the relationship he had with Rose before he broke her heart and joined the military. He knew how hurt she'd been when he left her. Now he wants to make amends. When he unexpectedly sees her in town he follows her to where she works. Ambushing her at work seems like a good idea. Rose won't make a huge scene there, will she? Kody makes an appointment using an assumed name is already face down and buck naked under a sheet before Rose enters the room. She can't help but admire his fine physique but she also notes distinct traits and markings that she knows intimately as belonging to Kody. Rose is furious with this deceit and decides to make him suffer. She knows just the right pressure points to ensure that he won't forget this `massage' session for several days and takes great pleasure in each grunt of pain she draws from him. Once Kody realizes that he's been busted, he makes it very clear that he misses Rose and wants to take up where they left off. Rose has suffered her fair share of heartache because of her love for Kody, she's not about to open herself up to that kind of pain again. Each of them has changed over the years. Will they be able to overcome the differences and unexpected surprises to become the loving couple they used to be?
Ruby Storm's WINTER'S ROSE is the last book in the WINTER STUDS trilogy. Kody and Rose are highly memorable characters full of passion which can be felt through the pages. It's thrilling to read about a love that withstands years of separation, misunderstandings, and the various changes each of the characters have endured. In classic Ms. Storm style readers will be treated to scenes that will have you laughing out loud one minute and sniffling the next and always leaves you feeling good about the time you spend reading one of her tales.

4.0 out of 5 stars
4 stars, 2 stars and 1 star for 3 contemporary romance stories., December 17, 2008
4 stars for A DEVIL IN WINTER by Diana Hunter.
Story Brief:
Kevin was dumped by his gorgeous girlfriend Pam. Still hurting, he is trying to get closure by trying to call and visit. She refuses him. Her sister Anna sees Kevin outside Pam's home and threatens to call the cops. He kidnaps Anna and ties her up temporarily until he can explain his innocence to Anna. Anna has always desired him, but Kevin never really saw her before because of his relationship with Pam.
Reviewer's Opinion:
Definitely good. Very enjoyable. Annie is a fun character. I was chuckling a few times. There is light bondage and flogging. The story is good, but I wish I could have seen more details and conversations of the evening where Anna first brings Kevin to dinner in front of Pam. The evening was told rather than shown. There was a lot of potential for witty and entertaining writing in this scene.
Data:
Story length: 85 pages. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 5. Length of sex scenes: 1.5 to 11.5 pages. Total number of sex scene pages: 25. Setting: current day upstate New York. Copyright: 2006. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

2 stars for ONE NAUGHTY WINTER NIGHT by Ruth D. Kerce.
Story Brief:
Kayla and Kyle have been good friends for 10 years. She has been in love with Kyle the entire time but didn't want to lose him as a friend so she hid her feelings. Kyle has been in love with her but never admitted it to himself, and he also hid his feelings. He was afraid of being rejected. All of a sudden, he is ready to admit his feelings and kisses her under the mistletoe.
Reviewer's Opinion:
There wasn't much story. I don't know why all of a sudden they change their actions with each other after 10 years. In general it was ok, but I prefer more plot. Once they kiss, the rest of the story is pretty much one long sex scene which was pretty good. One of my pet peeves is conflict based on vague communication and inaccurate assumptions. The 10 year conflict was based on this, which is not a winning formula for me.
Data:
Story length: 77 pages. Sexual language: strong/erotic with rear door activity. Number of sex scenes: 2. Length of sex scenes: 3 and 25 pages. Setting: current day U.S. Copyright: 2006. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

1 star for WINTER'S ROSE by Ruby Storm.
Story Brief:
Kody's family were wealthy ranchers in Texas. Rose worked on the ranch as a teenager. She and Kody fell in love. Then Kody enlisted in the Navy and left for 6 years. Rose felt like she had been used as a plaything and abandoned. She is still mad at him 6 years later when he returns to town. He wants to rekindle their relationship.
Reviewer's Opinion:
The entire story was based on inaccurate assumptions, with Rose lying and keeping a secret. I didn't enjoy that kind of conflict. The story did not feel good. On the positive side, the sex scenes were good, hot and sensual.
Data:
Story length: 97 pages. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 4. Length of sex scenes 1 to 11 pages. Total number of sex scene pages: 16. Setting: current day Texas. Copyright: 2006. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.
Other Books:
To date, I've read one other story by Ruby Storm. I gave 1 star to "Diamond in the Rough" Copyright 2005, which appears in the anthology "Diamond Studs." My 4 star review for the anthology was posted on 12/17/08.
