Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? is a very strong debut novel in the urban fiction genre. The plot was engaging, and the pacing was well suited to a novel of this type. The dialogue came off as very convincing, and did a good job propelling the story. The author (Kevin M. Weeks) has a very accessible prose style, which makes the book just plain fun to read. Weeks successfully conveys a sense of realism necessary for a convincing genre novel, through both dialogue and narrative. He excels at combining dialogue and descriptive passages, and keeps the story moving along nicely. The novel will be enjoyable to a wide audience." -- Writer's Digest 15th Annual Self-Published Book Awards --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Product Description

Kevin M. Weeks introduces a new series of steamy, suspenseful, and realistic drama from the streets. In the novel, Teco Jackson joins the Strictly Business (SB) Crew and gets the alias Homicide from the SB Crew boss, Mujaheed Bashi Fiten. When Bashi promotes Homicide to be his right hand man, Homicide gets into a major power struggle with the only female and toughest SB Crew member, Gail Indigo Que, a.k.a. GQ. Living an eventful life from cars, women, and money seemed promising for Homicide until there is a major take down. After getting out of jail, Homicide's mission is to find out where Bashi disappeared. Back on the streets of Philly, Homicide hears lots of talk about Bashi's whereabouts and the names of those who are involved. Will Homicide and GQ set aside their differences to discover the truth? Now Homicide is on a binge to find who snatched up his boss and to pay them back in a way that no one would ever think. The street life, is it suicide or murder?

From the Critics

DisilgoldSOUL Literary Review

The Street Life Series may very well be a novel capable of drawing even the most resistant reader of urban lit to take a peek inside. After all, the cover is certainly a winner, and don't forget the major conflict between Teco and GQ. A showdown is bound to ensue in this fast page turner. If Kevin M. Week's next book, "The Street Life Series: Male Exotic Stage Life" is anything as exciting as his first book, the literary world may very well have a new "Connoisseur of Urban Lit" about to take over. We (YOUnity Guild Awards) had to honor this talented author's work of fiction with the Best New Breakout Urban Lit Author of the Year 2006. The Street Life Series will climb to no.1, and before Kevin can complete the next book, be signed for a major book deal. He allows his characters to stand out more than his true-to-life personality which works. All we have to go by is our interview and this seemingly "look-out-world gaze" from the author's photo on the back of his book. WHO IS KEVIN M. WEEKS? We don't have a clue, but will advise all urban lit lovers to read The Street Life Series. Entertaining, Engaging, Authentic and a WINNER! - JUST IN! This book is dangerous and real!

4.0 out of 5 stars tight Book, March 27, 2007
if you dig Donald Goines novels and you were a fan of New Jack Swing then you are gonna roll with this Book with ease. Teco Jackson the Main character in this story has a ain't a afraid of nothing attitude. He joins up with the SBC Crew aka Strictly Business Crew.Bashi the leader of SBC turns up dead in the story line. there is a Female in the crew who is also rough her name is Que. Her&Teco have tension. Weeks is a very sharp writer&has a promising future with his sense of timing with Characters. this book had me hooked from the word go. i read it very quickly&got a solid grasp of what was going on. Very Good Book.

5.0 out of 5 stars "...A compelling story that is raw and real...depicting street life and the deadly game that unfolds.", May 30, 2007
By Books2Mention Magazine "Editor" (www.Books2Mention.com) - See all my reviews

"The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide Or Murder? is an urban tale depicting street life and the deadly game that unfolds."

"Teco "Homicide" Jackson joins the Strictly Business crew selling drugs in Philadelphia. He becomes the right hand man of Mujaheed Bashi Fiten who is the leader of the group."

"Teco is a smooth talker and has many women vying for his attention. He is considered the enforcer of the crew and soon gets caught up in more drama than he bargained for."

"Eventually a power struggle develops within the crew, as GQ a female member desires to take over and run things her way."

"Bashi becomes missing in action during the same time that Teco gets arrested. When Teco is released from jail he goes on a quest for answers and discovers some gruesome and shocking evidence. Will Teco continue to participate in the Strictly Business crew or will he choose to take his life in a different direction?"

"Kevin M. Weeks tells a compelling story that is raw and real."

4.0 out of 5 stars Taking it to the Streets, December 26, 2006
Teco Jackson aka Homicide loves the life as a petty thief and stealing Johnnies. Sleeping at the houses of different women and having just enough to get by has been a way of life for as long as he can remember. With a chance encounter with Bashi, the leader of the infamous SB crew, Teco must step up his thuggle in order to survive the life that is currently not his own anymore.

Gail Indigo Que aka GQ is the right hand woman to Bashi. She will break a sucka down like lightening and enjoys being the go to person whenever Bashi is not around. As Homicide joins the crew, GQ is not impressed or enthused about the pretty boy thief. GQ also cannot stand by while the position that should be rightfully hers is weaseled right from under her.

Bashi knew the moment that he laid eyes on Homicide that he was meant for his crew. With only a few members, Bashi could easily mold Homicide into the ranking of second in command. Bashi also knew that Homicide and GQ would eventually go toe to toe and only the one left standing would prevail.

The first installment of Street Life is a good beginning to what seems to be an entertaining series. At times, I felt like putting my hands around Homicide to let him in on what was really going on. I figured nobody in their right mind could be that stupid, but maybe that was the author's way to making you get into the book and characters. In any event, I look forward to the second part.
